i UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HENRY A.`CHURCH, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BRACELET.
t.SIP:ElCIIICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,133, dated April l., 1884.
Application iiled January 2, 1884. No model.)
.To @ZZ `whom, it mag/concern- Be it known that I, HENRYA. CHURCH, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to lettersl or iigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
`My invention relates to` plated box-brace lets and it consists, essentially, of a new and novel device for covering and protecting the seam of the projecting edges of the bracelet by means of apiece of bent stock or hollow wire adapted to embrace and retain the said edges, all as will `be more fully hereinafter set forth. K
In the annexed sheet of drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view` of a box-bracelet provided with my invention, and adapted to be opened, as common. Fig. 2 represents, enlarged, a vertical cross-section of the same, showing the upper y and Jlower edges of the bracelet, where united and forming the seam, as covered with a piece of hollow wire or bent stock. Fig. 3 represents a piece of round wire adapted to cover and protect said seam. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 represent various forms of wire in cross-section adapted to be used therewith.
The object of myinvention is tolconceal and protect the rough andun plated edges of a boxbracelet, whereby the same can be finished and polished to correspond with the other por tions of the bracelet. To this end I form the joint or seam at the upper and lower edges, and cover the same with a piece of` wire or stock, my invention being described as fol- 10WS:`
A, referring to the drawings, represents a box-bracelet complete embodying my invention, consisting of the inner and outer surfaces or plates, a b, of plated stock. These plates are bent or rolled to form in the bracelet `the upperand lower edges, h, joined at the center 5o thereof, and forming the continuous seam h',
the extreme ends y or edges a b of said plates being slightly separated, all as fully shown in y ig. 2.
c represents a piece of bent stock or plated hollow wire, of suitable form in its cross-sec tion, adapted, by means of a longitudinal out, e, to pass endwise over the said joints h and ends a b', for the purpose of securely locking all the parts together. If desired, the joints h may be soldered. The tube, also, is adapted to be further secured` to the said joints by solder.
In Figs. 4, 5, and 6, at s t o, I have represented other forms of wire adapted to be used herewith. v
I do not restrictmyself to locating the joint h' at the center of the edge, as it may be either side of the center or at the edge of the bracelet.I y
I make no claim to a joint and `catch or clasp, as any well-known device may be used with my improved box-bracelet common to this class of ornaments. I
rIhe plates a, and b are formed with their edges h, and then, after soldering or clasping the two plates together, the space or chamber w thereof is filled with soft metal, thereby adapting it to be bent to the desired form, after which the metal filling is run "out, This latter part, however, is common and not deemed an essential part of this specification.
I am aware that it is old to cover or protect the exposed edges of a band or hoop bracelet with tubing or bent stock, and I therefore do not claim such, broadly. l
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The box-bracelet A, herein described, consisting of inner and outer plates, a b, bent to form upper and lower edges, h, adapted to be united at h', andfurther consisting of the joint or seam covering c, or its equivalent, adapted to be secured to said joint, substantially as shown and specified.
2. The box-bracelet herein described, consisting of inner and outer plates,a b, provided with edges h, said plates being secured to gether at h and terminating at a b incombination with a piece of bent stock or hollow wire adapted to cover said ends and joint, all substantially as shown and set forth.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
