It is one of the primary objects ofthe .invention to provide means affording Vthe adjustment of .the garment support or hanger `to the respective size, especially to the width of the shoulders ofa garment to be suspended therefrom. Y e

It is Vanother object of the invention to provide means ensuring easy 'application of a garment, in particular of a jacket, to a garment' hanger of the aforesaid type, which is constructed in a manner as to permit ready draping of the garment thereon, thereby aiding in packaging and shippingvof thelatter -lwithout being subjectedto crushing orwrinkles. Shoulder extension element 13, as shown in dot and dash lines, may be outwardly moved from the full line position of Fig. 1 for being swivelled and thereafter clamped or tightened in a desired position at 13C relative tomain member 11 as indicated in full lines in Fig. 2, so that the upper rounded edge 13b conforms to the outline of upper rounded edge `14 of main member 11.

It can thus be seen that there has been provided in .acoorldmce with ,the invention a garment hanger struczture comprising a substantially dat supporting main body :bounded by a curved upper end edge ,and lateral edges extending in `downward direction from said curved upper end edge, said main body being provided with a trans- 'verse slot disposed a distance below said curved upper end edge, said slot including a straight median section and lateral opposite serrated slot end sections, two oppo- Vsitely arranged shoulder extension portions connected to said .end slot sections and in superposed position to said main body, and respective means passing through `said .end slot sections and through respective openings provided in said extension portions for attaching the latter to said main body and in such manner that said extension portions may be swivelly moved about said attac-hing imeans relative to said curved upper end edge and along said slot outwardly beyond said curved upper end edge of said main body, said attaching means being adapted 'to retain said extension portions in predetermined selected positions on said main body, each of said extension por- -tions being defined by curved end edges shaped for complementary alignment with said curved upper end edge of said main body, thereby to extend the support of the shoulders of a jacket, when placed on the curved upper edge of said main body, beyond said lateral edges of said main body and onto the respective curved end edges of said extension portions commensurate with the width of the shoulders of said jacket, said median slot being adapted to receive portions of the trousers of a garment.

Referring again to lengthy slot portion 21 of Fig. 1, there is arranged at Zlla a lower and narrower further slot which may be employed for threading through the cutis of a pair of pants inserted in median slot 2l so that .the pants or trousers will be prevented from sliding out j* of slot 21. Y

` A marked advantage of the garment hanger structure resides further in the fact that it is extremely light in weight, takes up a comparatively small space, and may be relatively short in length but suicient to serve as a Adisplay and draping support whether the same is used for suspension from a hook in a closet or is placed in a carton for shipment, so that the jacket or other garment part conforms to the adjusted garment .support structure and remains free from wrinkles and other undesirable veffects heretofore observed in known garment structures.

Various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention and it is intended that such obvious changes and modiiications be embraced by the annexed claims.

Having thus described the inventionfwhat is claimed as new and desired to besecured by Letters Patent is:

l. A garment support and draping device comprising a 'body of substantiallyjat material provided-with at least Vtwo spaced apart elongated slots, one of said slots extend- `ing in horizontal direction and having a median Aportion and opposite end portions, said end portions each-being provided with serrated means, a curved end edge forming the upper boundary 'of said body, and shoulder ex- -tension means rotatably and displaceably received in each end portion of said one elongated slot, said shoulder extension 4means being provided with clamp means engageable with said body and with said serrated means for clamping said extension means in position relative to said curved end edge of said body, each of said shoulder extension means being defined by an arcuate upper end edge positionable for substantial alignment with the curved end edge of said body to thereby provide lateral extensions relative to the body and to conform said supportfto predetermined shoulder -width of a garment and to drape the latterV over said body and said lateral extensions, -the other slot being adapted to engage at least a part of a pair of trousers when said trousers are inserted into the median portion of said one slot.

2. A device according to claim l, said serrated slot end portions including substantially rectangular projections and rectangular-shaped gaps between adjacent projections, said clamp means including a retainer head, a threaded bolt portion and a square-shaped bolt portion located between said head and said threaded bolt portion, said square-shaped bolt portion being .adapted to engage the top of one of said projections and with one of the gaps, respectively, said threaded bolt portion being engaged by a thumb screw, each of said shoulder extension means being provided with an opening suiiicient to pivotally move said extension means relative to said clamp means, said thumb screw being adapted to rmly press said extension means against said body in respective positions of said clamp means in said serrated end slot portions.

3. A device according to claim 1, said body being provided with a further slot located between said curved upper end edge and said one slot, said further slot being adapted to facilitate insertion of the hand of an operator for grasping and carrying said body.

4. A garment hanger structure comprising a body of substantially flat material terminating in .an upwardly curved upper end edge, said body being provided with at least one horizontal, elongated slot disposed a .distance below said upper end edge, saidone slot having a straight median portion and two opposite lateral serrated end portions, said serrated end portionsiincluding projections l and .agap located between two adjacent projections, two

oppositely arranged shoulder extension means having .openings and connected with saidr serrated end portions, and respective clamp means passing through said serrated end portions and through said openings to aix the'position ofthe extension means on said body, said extension means *being pivotally and displaceably supported by said clamp means for movements relative to said one slot and relative to said curved upper end edge, each of said exten- Vsion means being deiined by an arcuate upper end edge positionable for substantial alignment with said curved upper end edge of said body, thereby to conform said hanger structure to and commensurate with the width of the shoulders of a jacket when the latter is placed on said body, said median slot portion being adapted to receive at least part of a pair of trousers of a garment, said clamp means including each a bolt constructed for engaging respectively a projection and a gap.
