4 Claims. (Cl. 116-133) This invention relates to attachments for timepieces and more particularly to a device to remind the user of the timepiece of a time of day or night.

Although the attachment for the timepiece may be used for numerous purposes, one practical use of the reminder is to enable a person to know at a glance how much time remains for legally occupying 'a parking space that has a meter associated with it. It is evident, though, that other time periods may be indicated by the use of the same attachment.

' One of the objects of the invention is to provide an attachment for a timepiece, principally a wrist watch since they are more commonly used at the present time, requiring no alteration to the watch nor mechanical fasteners such as screws to retain the attachment in place. Instead, the attachment is specially designed so that it clips under the pins of the watch used to hold the strap fastened to the case of the watch. Further, the timepiece face is essentially unobstructed since the attachment may be made of a neat thin strip of clear plastic so that the numerical designations on the face of the watch and the hands are visible by inspection through the body of the attachment.

In order to be practical the watch attachment is made of very simple construction and furthermore, the adjustment of the reminder is achieved very easily, preferably by turning a finger wheel which is superposed beneath the body of the attachment that is, between the watch crystal and the attachment body. The hand wheel has a neat, thin line scribed or otherwise applied thereon to be used as a time reference.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary top view of a watch and strap which has the attachment applied thereto.

Figure 2 is a top view of the attachment in Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a plan view of the attachment in Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken approximately on the line 4-4 of Figure 1 and showing the watch in elevation.

In the accompanying drawings there is shown watch with watch strap 12 having

14 and 16 held fastened to the case of the watch by means of conventional pins 18 and 20 carried in openings in the projecting ears of watch 10. The watch is selected for illustration because wrist watches are most generally used and the principal application of the invention is, therefore, in connection with wrist watches. However, it is evident that the principles of the invention are applicable in connection with other types of timepieces.

Attachment 22 is constructed of an elongated support or base 24 narrower than the face of the watch 10 and made of transparent plastic material so as to enable the user of the watch to see. the hands and numerals of the watch when the base is attached to the watch case. Alternatively, the plastic from which the base is made may be quite rigid, but this would have the disadvantage of requiring pins 18 and 20 to be removed so that the base may be fitted over the face of the watch after which the pins 18 and 20 are replaced.

40 and 42 at all times. The means mount- 1 ing the wheel for rotation are capable of a number of modifications, one of which is a rivet 50 which extends through aligned openings in the center of section 26 and wheel 44.

In use, the wheel 44 is turned until the marker 48 designates a particular time reference over the face of the watch. Sufi'lcient friction exists between wheel 44 and the center section 26 of base 24 so that the wheel 44 will not inadvertently be moved after it is manually set. The user of the watch and attachment has a time reference made by the position of the marker 48 over the face of the watch.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. An attachment for a watch comprising an elongated base narrower than a face of a watch and adapted to extend across a face of a watch, said base having ends bent downwardly and provided with outwardly extending tabs adapted to be inserted downwardly between a watch and wrist strap loops fastened to said watch by retaining pins and whereby to detachably attach said base to a watch, a transparent wheel beneath said base adapted to overlie a face of a watch in the center thereof, means rotatably mounting said wheel on said base, and a marker on said wheel for registration with selected grad- Patented June 7,v 1960 wardly opening-pockets onthe ends of the base adaptedtaining pinsto a watch. 7
