SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,792, dated Application filed April 2!,1883. (No model.) I

To all whom, it may concern..-

Be it known that I, BENJAMIN B. ScULLY, Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massach usetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Necktie -Supporters, which will, in connection with the accompanying drawings, be hereinafter "fully described, and specifically defined in the appended claims.

This invention has for its object certain improvements in the class or kind of necktiesupporters for which Letters Patent of the United States were issued to methe 13th day of February, 1883; and the invention consists in certain details of construction in the body of the supporter; also in the tie-securing pins and in the loop by which the supporter is at tached to the collar-button.

In said drawings, Figure l is an elevation showing the tie with pins inserted, which serve to secure it to the supporter. Fig. 2 isan elevation showing the supporter with the attaching-pins detached. Fig. 3 is an elevation as assembled, the several parts of Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section taken on line 2 2, Fig 3. Fig. 5 is a similar view,taken on a, detached perspective View, showing my improved loop, which issecured in the supporter and by which it is secured on the collar-button. Fig. 7 is a view like Fig. 6, showing a modification of my securing-loop. Fig. 8 is also a view like Fig. 6, showing another modification of my securing-loop. Fig. 9 is a showing the method of securing the loop therein when formed as in Fig. 7. Fig. 10 is a view like Fig. 9, but showing the method of securing the loop therein when formed as in Fig. 8.

a is the loop by which the supporter is secured to the shank c of the collar-button. Said body a may beformed with any desired configuration of outline and of any suitable material. ' porting the collar in the desiredposition. Said loops may be turned either to the rear or front of the main portion, and may be arranged at such distance from the body as the set of the collar may require.

For the purpose of sec to the collar-button, and in order that it may be quickly placed in position thereon or removed therefrom, I have invented the loop 0, formed of a single piece of elastic wire, which is bent into form as shown in Fig. 6 that is, it is bent at its center, as at i,- then each half is again bent, as at h h, by which the four parts 9 g are brought parallel, or nearly so, then bight i and ends j are turned over or bent in the same direction, hook-like, as shown in Fig.5, To secure this loop in body a, it is only necessary to form asuitable aperture therein, and to insert the hook-like portionsi and j j therein, as shown in Fig. 5,when, if the body a is'of metal, the loop may be effectually secured in position by soldering the loop and body together, as shown at f. If body a is formed of very thin-metal or non-soldering material, and it is desired to secure loop 0 therein by clinching instead of soldering, the central portion, z, thereof may be extended farther downward toward bights h, as shown in Fig. 7, in which case part i and ends j are inserted and soldered or clinched in body a at separate points, as shown in Fig. 9 5 or, if preferred, ends j may be extended downward instead of the central portion, 1', as shown in Fig. 8, in which case the part i and said ends j are inserted and secured in body a, as shown in Fig. 10.

In order to detachably secure the tie k to body a, I employ the hooks d, formed with an eye, '1, and point n, and bent at m to form two parallel parts or members, so that when eye Z is bent at right angles thereto the pointed portion a may be secured therein in the well-known uring the supporter manner. Said eye (1 is passed through holes p in body a, while bight m is seated in recess 8, cut in the upper edge of body a, whereby the pin is secured from displacement upon the body, andso' holds tie is in place.

I am aware of Letters Patent of the United States No. 70,331, dated October 29, 1867, and

dated April 5, 1881, and No. 256,740, dated April 18, 1882, and I claim nothing that is described or shown therein, my invention being confined to a body having the folded or doubled ends, the tie-securing pins and body, with seats and holes in the body to receive the pins, and the button-engaging loop doubled at its center and formed with the four parallel,or nearly parallel, wires 57, bent at h to form a smooth lower extremity, and secured to body a at the central part, 2', and ends j.

I claim as my invention- 1. In a necktie-supporter, the body a, having the turned ends 1), arranged to form an open loop, and to sustain the overlying collar of the wearer, substantially as specified.

2. I11 a necktie-supporter, the combination, with body a,pr0vided with looped ends formed with passages 12 and seats 3 in its upper edge, of

securing-pins d, formed with bend m, a pointed end, 01, and at the opposite end with the loop I, bent at right angles to the line of the wire and inserted in holes 1;, to be engaged on the opposite side by the pointed tie-engaging end at, substantially as specified.

3. In combination with body a of a neoktiesupporter, the attaching-loop a, formed of a single piece of elastic wire bent centrally, as at i and also as at h h, to form four nearly parallel parts or members, g g, and with said central part, 13, and ends j j bent hook-like and inserted and secured in said body, substantially as specified.
