(Cl. 155-2) This invention relates to chairs, and more particularly to light chairs adapted'for stacking.

The objects and features of my invention will best be understood and appreciated from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, selected for purposes of illustration, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of the chair taken from the upper front left hand side;

Fig. 2 is a view in perspective from the rear;

Fig. 3 is a view in perspective from the side; and

Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of a plurality of the chairs of my invention shown as stacked.

My invention consists in a tubular frame chair having rear legs 10 inclined generally from a wide point at the base to a narrower point at the top, where they are secured to and support a back rest 12. The rear legs 10 are integrally connected to and support horizontal seat support tubes 14 which extend forwardly and then bend downwardly to form front leg portions 16. Between the front leg portions 16 and the lower portions of the legs 10, I provide inwardly curved tie bars 18. A seat 20 is secured to the horizontal supports 14 by suitable means and extends laterally thereof a short distance.

The chair of my invention as above described is essenitally of conventional configuration and employs essentially conventional elements. However, it has one particular feature which I intend to emphasize and claim in this application; namely, that of stacking in a secure arrangement. This I accomplish with my invention by 2,936,024 Patented May 10, 1960 the interrelationship between the outward tilt of the rear legs 10 and the overlap of the seat 20 beyond the horizontal supports 14, in combination with the inward sweep of the tie bars 18. The rear side corners of the seat 20 extend outwardly of the braces 14 to provide somewhat of a notched or recessed area adapted to receive the lower portions of rear legs 10 of another chair of similar design and shape. In this way the chair is stacked with the rear legs more or less locked in position just behind the seat 20 of the chair below it. The tie bars 18 of the upper chair then nest along the seat 20 supporting the upper chair against rocking. I regard this as highly advantageous and intend to claim the same herein.

Having thus described and disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

A chair comprising tubular rear legs disposed in outward sloping attitude, a back rest connected to and supported by said rear legs, horizontal braces secured to said rear legs extending forwardly therefrom, front legs integral with and connected to said horizontal support ele- -ments, a seat connected to and supported by said horizontal support elements, the sides of said seat extending outwardly from said horizontal support elements and the side rear corners of said seat defining adjacent to said horizontal support elements a recessed area, said rear legs being positioned apart by a dimension adapted to fit into said recessed area of a second chair constructed identically with said chair, fore and aft tie rods between said front and rear legs curved inwardly and underlying said seat, whereby stacking said chair with another chair of identical configuration brings the tie rods of the upper chair into supporting relation with the seat of the lower chair and the rear legs of the upper chair fitting into the recessed areas of said lower chair to form a securely stacked combination.
