1 Claim. (Cl. 220-42) This invention relates to slip covers for containers, and has as an object such a cover member easily applied to a paper container having an outwardly rolled upper edge and which, when it is applied to a container,
having a rolled upper edge 6, the container being filled as is shown in dotted lines and indicated at 7. Mounted on the container 5, along the upper rolled edge of the container 6, is a slip cover or closure member generally indicated by the numeral 10. This cover has a central discoidal depressed portion 11 and an upwardly offset annular top surface or edge 12 extending in a plane parallel to the discoidal portion 11. The cover further has a laterally ofiset flange forming a skirt or side face 15 which extends downwardly from the top surface 12 and terminates in an upwardly and outwardly rolled rim or Intermediate the upper and lower portions of the side 15 is an internal bead 20.

In operation, when the cover is to be applied to a container which is filled to the fill line 7, it will be seen that the discoidal portion 11 of the cover will rest upon the substance in the container so that when the cover is applied to the container, any air upon the top surface of the container contents will be forced or extruded out of the container so that the air will not contaminate or coagulate the container contents. The bead 20 in the skirt 15 of the cover 10 aids in affixing the cover to the upper edge 6 of the container 5. The shoulder 13 is formed between the ofiset side face 13 and top edge 12 for the purpose of aiding in stacking a plurality of these covers on top of one another to facilitate packing and shipping the covers.
What I claim is:
A slip cover forpaper containers having an outwardly rolled upper edge portion, said cover being formed of sheet material and having a central flat discoidal portion, a fiat annular portion encircling said discoidal portion and adapted to be positioned on the top of said outwardiy rolled portion, said discoidal portion being depressed below the plane of said annular portion, a cylindrical flange depending from the periphery of said annular portion and being formed at its lower edge with a shoulder extending radially outwardly, a cylindrical skirt portion depending from said shoulder, said skirt being formed upwardly from its lower edge with an internal bead adapted to engage the rolled portion of the container top adjacent the lower end thereof, and said head being spaced radially outwardly from said cylindrical flange whereby said covers may be arranged in stack formation.
