' S. HUNT.
VEHICLE SPRING. No. 291,738. Patented Jan.8,1884.
UNTTED STATES PATENT @EEICE.
SAMUEL HUNT, OF LOOKPORT, NEW YORK.
VEHICLE-SPRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,738, dated January 8, 1884.
Application filed October 23, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HUNT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lockport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Seat Springs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to an improvement in vehicle-seat springs; and it consists in the double-coil spring A, having eyes d, and loop B, for securing it to the seat by means of metallic straps O, and bracket E, substantially as hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the spring applied. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the spring, the bracket being removed. Fig. 4 is a detail.
A represents a double right. and left hand coiled spring, having the outwardly and downwardly flaring supports a as a continuation thereof, terminating in eyes (I, and having two or more coils, b, and loop B projecting at right angles from the top of the two coincident coils I) Z), the loop being secured to the under side of the seat by means of the metallic straps C. The brackets E are provided with the slightlycurved arms f, and are rigidly secured to the base-board g. The brackets terminate at either end in the hinge-joints h, adapted to the coincident eyes d of the supports a, to which supports the brackets are articulated, as shown.
I am. aware that coiled springs have hitherto been employed in the construction of Wheeled vehicles, and that brackets have also been employed in connection with such springs; but it does not appear that the loop 13, in connection with the metallic straps C, has hitherto been conceived as a means of enabling such springs made of a continuous strand of wire to be applied as a vehicle-seat spring.
Having described my invention, whatI claim 1s 1. Avehicle-seat spring consisting of aloop for securing it to the vehicle-seat by means of metallic straps, and a double-coil spring articulated to a bracket by means of hinge-j oints for securing it to the wagon-bed, and flaring supports terminating in eyes, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a vehicle-seat spring, the combination of the double-coil spring A, having flaring supports a, and eyes cl, loop 13, metallic straps O, hinge-j oints h, and bracket E, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL HUNT.
