The operation of this invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. The machine is conveyed to the stacking-place, where it is to be secured by means of stakes, or in any convenient manner. The carrier is then to be lowered, and the load deposited upon it, which is usually done by means of suitable rakes or gatherers. Draft is then applied to the hoisting-ropes, and the carrier, with its load, is thereby raised upon the inclined tracks. During its upward passage the carrier is gradually tilted by the arm or lever S, the roller T of which travels. upon the under side of the guide-rail Y until it reaches the segmentally slotted guide A", whereby the carrier is tilted rearwardly. At the same time the lever V of the compressorframe strikes the stop or bracket D, thereby forcing the compressor-frame in a forward direction and compressing and holding the load securely upon the carrier. The latter continues its upward course until the top of the track is reached, and by this upward passage the pressure upon the lever of the compressorframe is gradually lessened until it entirely ceases, and the laterally-extending stop IV of the lever V engages the catch G", whereby the compressor-frame is thrown back and the load dumped from. said frame. The carrier is then permitted to drop or return by its own weightto its original position. Before the carrierframe reaches the ground the stop WV of lever V engages the hook E, whereby the compressor-frame is thrown back and held in position, so as not to interfere with the load which may be placed upon the carrier.
' The trough l3 serves as a guide for the lever V.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. The combination of suitable inclined trackrails, the carrier moving upon the same, an arm or lever extending rearwardly from said carrier, guides for said arm orlever, a compressorframe hinged to the carrier, an arm pivoted to said frame, and suitable guides for said arm, as set forth.
2. In a hay-stacker, the combination of the guide-rail X, the trough-shaped guide secured.
to the side of the same, and the pivoted compressor-arm moving in said guide, as set forth.
3. The combination of the carrier, the hinged compressor-frame,the arm pivoted to the same, a stud or stop projecting laterally from the rear end of said arm, a trough-shaped guide, and a hook at the front end of the same, as set forth.
4. The combination of the carrier, the hinged compressor-frame,an arm pivoted to the same, a stud or stop projecting laterally from the rear end of said arm, a trough-shaped guide, a slot at the rear end of said guide, and astop orbracket secured under the said slot, as set forth.
5. The combination of the carrier, the hinged compressor-frame, an arm pivoted to the same, a stud or stop projecting laterally from the rear end of said arm, the guide-rail Y, supported by suitable brackets, and the catch F G secured to said guide-rail, as set forth.
6. The combination of the carrier, the hinged compressor-frame, an arm pivoted to the same, a stud or stop projecting laterally from the rear end of said arm, a trough-shaped guide, a hook at the front end of the same, aslot at the rear end of the said trough, a stop or bracket secured under the said slot, the guide-rail Y, supported by suitable brackets, and the catch F G, secured to said guide-rail, as set forth.
7. The combination ofsuitable inclined trackrails, the carrier, an arm or lever extending rearwardly from the same, a wheel or pulley at the rear end of said arm, the track or guiderails X Y, the curved or segmentally-slotted guide A the compressor-frame hinged to the carrier, the arm pivoted to the same, a stud or stop projecting laterally from the rear end of said arm, a trough-shaped guide, a hook at the front end of said guide, a slot at the rear end of said trough, a stop or bracket secured under saidslot, and the catch F G", secured to the guide-rail Y, as set forth.
8. The combination of the base-frame,the inclined tracks, the carrier, the hoistingropes, a frame extending downwardly from the rear end of the base-frame, and pulleys j ournaled at the lower corners of the said frame, and serving to guide the hoisting-ropes, the draft upon which is thereby lowered, as set forth.
