Description

Dec. 1, 1959" D. l.. HARTKoPF SCRAPER Filed Aug. 7, 1358l www Donald L. Harfkopf FigJ United "StatesPatent O l 2,914,7s7 SSCRAPR Douala L. Hurtkupf, Huutiugtuu Park, Calif. n Application August 7, 195s, seriu1Nu.7ss,66s 1 claim. (C115- 236) This invention relates `to new and useful improvements in scraping implement-s forA use .particularly in i bakeries, pastry shops, etc., and has for its primary object to` provide, in a manner as hereinafter'set forth, a device of this character wherein the blade may readily `be removed when desired for replacement or cleaning.
,i Another important object Aof the present invention is to provide, in a scraper .of the aforementioned character f comprising a separable holder and blade, novel means for firmly but removably mounting said blade on said holder without theuse of bolts, screws or other extraneous securing elements.
f Other objects of the invention are to provide a scraper of the character describedV which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light rweight, sanitary and which may be manufactured at low cost.`
These together with other objects and advantages lwhich will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forminga part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a view in front'elevation of a scraper constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure A2 is an enlarged View in vertical section, taken substantially on the line 2-.2 of Figure l; and
Figure 3 is -a perspective view of the device, showing the holder and blade separated.
Referring now to thedrawingin detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a holder which is` designated generally by reference character 4. The holder 4 is formed from a single sheet or p1`ate'5 of stainless steel or other suitable resilient material and comprises a substantially rectangular handle. Formed integrally with the lower edge 7 2,914,787 Patented Dec. l, 1959 ice an upper or back portion 11 of substantially tapered or ovate transverse section for engagement in the clips 9. The blade 10 is further provided, on its front and adjacent the bottom or base of the back 11, with a shoulder or lip 14 the top of which is grooved to provide a seat 15 lfor the lower edge 7 of the plate `5. This is shown to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawing.
iIt is thought that the use of the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briey, the resilient clips 9 are tensioned when the back 11 of the blade 10 is forced thereinto from either end of the plate 5, thus frictionally securing said blade in position. The grooved lip or shoulder 1.4 shields the lower edge 7 of theplate 5 and stabilizes the blade 10 on the hol-der 4 in an obvious manner. The handle 6 of the holder 4 may be readily gripped in either hand when using the tool. Added pressure may be applied to the scraping edge 13 of the blade 10 by engaging the fingers of the hand which grips the handle 6 with the back 11 of said blade. The back 11 of the blade 10 also shields the fingers of the hand from the work. Of course, when the blade 10 becomes worn or damaged it may quickly be removed for replacement. The removability of the blade 10 also facilitates cleaning and maintaining the implement in a highly sanitary condition at all times. The device is particularly useful for scraping kettles in bakeries.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention'. Further, since numerous modilications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be Iresorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A scraping implement of the character described comprising: a holder including a resilient plate comprising a straight edge portion, spaced resilient clips on one side of the plate integral with said straight edge portion thereof, and an elongated, resilient blade removably mounted on the holder and including a longitudinal scraping edge,
- said blade further including an integral, longitudinal back member of tapered transverse section slidable endwise into the clips for tensioning the same and frictionally securing said bladeon said plate, said blade still further including a longitudinal shoulder paralleling said back member and having a longitudinal groove therein providing a seat for the reception of the plate.
