JQH. BROWN.
FIRE ARM.
No. 290,740. Patented Dec. 25, 1883.

' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. BROWN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE BROWN STAND- ARD FIRE ARMS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
FIRE-ARM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 290,740, dated December 25, 1883.
Application filed July 23, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. BROWN, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Fire-Arms, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
The object of this improvement is to provide for pivoting the hammer of a firearm in the trigger-plate before it and the triggerplate are inserted between the lock-plates.
To this end the improvement consists in the combination, with the hammer, the triggerplate, and the lock-plates, of a sleeve extending through the hammer and the trigger-plate I 5 and forming the pivot for the hammer, and a screw extending into the lock-plates and through the sleeve, so as to secure all parts in their proper relative positions. Bythis combination of parts it is rendered practicable to pivot the hammer to the trigger-plate before inserting the trigger-plate and hammer between the lock-plates.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a part of a fire-arm embodying my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures;
A designates the false breech of the fire-arm, and B designates the lock-plates extending rearwardly therefrom.
C designates the trigger-plate. It is provided with two upwardly-extending lugs, a.
D designates the hammer. It is fitted hetween the lugs a of the trigger-plate and pivoted thereto by a metal sleeve, E, extending through it and the said lugs. The hammer is thus pivoted between thelugs of the triggerplate, then the hammer, trigger-plate, and sleeve are inserted between the lock-plates. 0 When they are thus inserted in place, the sleeve is prevented from slipping out of the lugs of the trigger-plate. A screw, F, is then passed through one of the lock-plates, then through the sleeve E, and then itis screwed into a 5 tapp dd. hole in the other lock-plate. The screw then secures all the parts in their proper relative positions. The trigger-plate is secured to the stock G by ascrew, H, passing through it and entering the stock. 7
The means for actuating and controlling the hammer and the other parts may be of any suitable construction.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a fire-arm, the combination, with the hammer, the trigger-plate, and the lock-plates, of a sleeve extending through the hammer and trigger-plate and forming the pivot for the hammer, and a screw extending into the lockplates and through the sleeve, so as to secure all parts in their proper relative positions, substantially as specified.
