United States Patent This invention relates to improvements in portable kit cases for sportsmen especially, although not necessarily for ice fishermen.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a kit case adapted to be suspended from either shoulder of a person to hang at the opposite side of a person from the shoulder from which it is suspended, and to conform to the body for conveniently carrying a large number of fishing accessories, said case being adapted to be used as a seat at a fishing location and for shielding a seated fisherman against wind.

Another object is to provide a kit case as in the foregoing which is adapted for easy pulling as a sled over ice to a fishing location.

Still another object is to provide a kit case for the above purposes Which is light in weight, yet strong, simple in construction and may be manufactured at a low cost.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like nw merals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the kit case of this invention in its preferred form;

Figure 2 is a view illustrating the manner in which the casing is used as a sled on ice and looking at the top wall of the case;

Figure 3 is an enlarged view of the case in top plan;

Figure 4 is a view in vertical longitudinal section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3;

Figure 5 is a view in vertical cross-section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3;

Figure 6 is a view in longitudinal section taken on the line 6--6 of Figure 4; and

Figure 7 is a View in plan with the rear wall of the case uppermost and the case used as a sled.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, according to this invention, a hollow generally rectangular kit case 1 of light, strong sheet metal is provided which is generally elliptical in horizontal section and comprises concavo-convex front and

Referring to the operation and use of the invention, the case 1 is designed for carrying therein an ice fishermans kit, for instance fishing tackle, bait, ice spuds, canned heat and other equipment not shown since the same form no part of this invention.

The case 1 is carried by the shoulder strap 25 by which it is suspended from either shoulder, in a manner which Will be clear, over ground to the ice. When ice is reached, the case 1 is deposited on the ice with the front wall 3 and plate 29 lowermost, as shown in Figures 2 and 7 for use as a sled to be pulled to a fishing location. In this use, the strap 25 between the pair of

11, 13, or 15, 17 as the case may be, is pulled to slide through the loops of the selected

pair

11, 13 or 15, 17 to extend forwardly of one end of the case, as shown in Figures 2 and 7, to be pulled by said strap and tighten the strap across the opening 8 in the same manner as said strap will be tightened by the weight on the strap 25 when the case is being carried. For carrying fishing poles, and the like, shown in broken lines at 37, the plate 29 may he slid outwardly laterally of the top wall 7 part way as shown in Figure 7 and such long objects as will not fit in the case 1 may be inserted between the strap 25 and top wall 7 to rest on the partially extended plate 29 to be held in place by said strap 25 extending diagonally of the opening 8 as shown in Figures 2 and 7 to tightly hold such long objects against the top wall 7 and prevent accessories in the case 1 from rolling or jolting out of the opening 8. At the fishing location, the case 1 may he stood on its bottom wall 9 and used as a seat and the plate 31 may he slid upwardly or" such a seat well above the casing 1 for use as a wind shield. Canned heat, not shown, may be used in the case 1 to heat the seat. Long spuds, not shown, may be inserted through the handles 35 and driven into the ice to stabilize the case 1 when utilized as a seat. As will be obvious, the case 1 is adapted for use in hunting and carrying hunting accessories and small animals killed in the hunt.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling Within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows: 7

A carrying case for a sportsmans kit of accessories said case comprising ends, front and rear walls of concavo convex cross section whereby the case will fit close to a person carrying the same, and a top wall having an access opening therein, a pair of upper and lower rigid loops on said rear wall adjacent one end of the case, a rigid loop on said top wall disposed thereon diagonally of said pair of loops, and a shoulder strap having connected ends and being slidably trained through said loops with a double thickness of the strap extending from the lower loop to the upper loop and both slidable through the upper loop for selective extension in a loop portion above Further, since numerous 4 said top or forwardly of one of said ends respectively for carrying of the case and pulling the same over ice front wall lowermost, said strap in the carrying position having a single thickness portion extending diagonally across said opening and top wall between the sides of said loop and in the pulling position having a double thickness portion extending across said opening and top wall to retain accessories in the case and bind articles against said top wall outside the case.
