CLAMPS Eugene Kramer, Long Island City, N. Application February 16, 1956, Serial No. 565,966
4 Claims. (Cl. 248-226) This invention relates to an improvement in clamps of the conventional type and more specifically to clamps used in connection with signs, advertising displays, price tags in show windows, stores, super markets and the like, where variety of merchandise is displayed on shelves or in the windows, and information as to price or advertising message has to be shown to the public.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a clamp suitable for carrying removable signs; another purpose is to provide such clamps in which the signs may be placed in a variety of positions so as to be easily visible and associated with the merchandise displayed; a still further object is to provide such a device which is easy to use and simple and inexpensive to manufacture. Other uses and novel features of my invention will be apparent from the following specification if considered together with the drawings attached hereto and forming part of same in which Fig. 1 represents a view in perspective of the device with the rod separated from the clamp;
Fig. 2 is another view in perspective of the same device fully assembled;
Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 2 along the lines 3-3; and
Fig. 4 is a section of Fig. 2 along the lines 44.
Like numerals refer to identical parts in all drawings.
As shown in the drawings, a clamp 11 of the conventional type is formed by bending a piece of round wire 12 back on itself, holding clamp screw 13 on one end; the portions bent back upon themselves being held together by two sheaths 14 and 15 which also form the openings 16a, 16b, 16c and 16d, capable of receiving and removably retaining rod 17 provided with a flange 18, said openings having a plurality of recesses 19 into which said flange 18 may be inserted, thereby fixing the position of the rod 17 relative to the clamp 11. While the end of the rod 17 provided with the flange 18 fits into either one of the openings 16a, 16b, 160 or 16d, the other end 20 of said rod 17 may be used to carry advertising or display 21 as shown in Fig. 2.
It is obvious therefore that by attaching the clamp to a shelf the rod carrying the advertising message or price may be inserted in a great variety of positions and in the case of each insertion the direction of the sign may be adjusted by the selection of the recess into which the flange is inserted.
Changes in arrangement, in the shape and form of parts may be made and it may be possible to use a rod of angular cross section or construct a clamp with other means to removably insert the rod, without departing from the spirit of the invention which is defined by the following claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A clamp for the display of signs comprising a double wire loop C-clamp comprising a single strand of wire folded back upon itself, sheet metal sheaths connecting the side-by-side wire strands of the back and one end of said double wire loop C-clamp, said sheaths forming openings, a rod received in one of said openings, and an adjustable holding clamp screw threadly received in another end of said double wire loop C-clamp for adjusting the axial distance between said holding clamp screw and said one end of said double wire loop C-clamp.
2. A clamp as described in claim 1, wherein said rod has flanges, and said sheet metal sheaths have recesses in their ends adjoining said openings, said rod flanges entering into the recesses at one end of one of said sheet metal sheaths.
3. A clamp as described in claim 2, wherein said openings are provided on both ends of said sheaths so as to allow a plurality of positions of said rod in relation to said double-wire loop C-clamp.
4. A clamp comprising a single strand of wire folded back upon itself to form a C-shaped member having a bight at one end, said bight being threaded for receiving a holding clamp screw, a sheath enclosing an intermediate portion of said C-shaped member, another sheath enclosing an end portion of said C-shaped member opposite to said bight end, said sheaths and said folded strand of wire defining openings, a rod telescopically received in one of said openings, both ends of said sheaths having recesses, said rod having flanges, and said rod flanges being received in said sheath recesses of one end of one of said sheaths, and selectively receivable in the other of said recesses for selective positioning of said rod.
