CARL VOTTI, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SEGNAL DEVICE FOR CL OGK -WENDING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,789, dated December 4, 1883.
(No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, CARL VOTTI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in clocks, and has for its object to provide novel and simple devices for giving warning when the clock should be rewound. This I aceomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure represents a face view of a time-piece with parts broken away, and showing only so much of the time mechanism as is necessary to illustrate my invention.
In the drawing, the letter F indicates a studdisk which is fastened directly upon the axis of the motor-wheel G, and its stud h is adapted to catch into the notches i of the disk K, turn ing the latter the distance between two consecutive notches for each revolution of the disk F. The notches i in the disk K are, however, not continued completely about said disk K, but at one part is a closed space by which the stud h is caused to arrest the move ment of the clock. The notches 2' thus determine, according to their number, the duration of movement of the time-piece. To the disk K is fastened a pin, or, which, theoretically, also serves as a stud or catch.
0 is an arm or rod turning on a pivot, 12, and having a secondary arm, S. To the arm 0 is attached a plate or placard, T, upon which may be seen a warning, as, for example, the words wind up.
The operation is as follows: The disk K, for
example, has six notches, i, and a closed space, I
1'. The motor-wheel G, and with it the studdisk F, make about one revolution in five days, so that the pin m on the disk K would press upon or lift the secondary arm S upon the expiration of thirty days after the clock has been wound up. The arm 0 with its plate T thereby is caused to describe an arc, and the warning wind up on the plate T becomes visible through the sightopening a in the dial. This operation or coming into view of the warning wind up would be completed on the thirty-first day, so that a running space of about four days will still remain for the clock, during which time any one consulting the time-piece will be reminded of the necessity for winding up. The plate T, if desired, may be caused to come into view at one side above or below the dial, instead of through a sight-opening in the same.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A warning apparatus having a signal, an arm, 0, and wheel or disk K, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
