I WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID WILLIAM REESE, OF CANAL DOVER, OHIO.
,. CAR-WHEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 289,712, dated December 4, 1883.
Application filed October 4, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom 2.15 may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID W. REEsE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canal Dover, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful (Jar- Wheel, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to wheels for railroadcars; and it has for its Object to provide increased facilities for attaching the wheels to the axles, and the latter to the cars. To this end my invention consists in certain improvements in the construction of the wheel and its attachments, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
' In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the wheel in position upon the end of the axle. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the axle-clip detached.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
A in the drawings designates the wheel, which is provided with the axle-box B, having, at its inner end, an annular inwardly-projecting flange, O.
D designates the axle, E the spindle, and F the axle-clip, which latter consists of a square box, Gr, having at its outer end an annular collar, H, adapted to fit within the flange O of the car-wheel. The upper edges of the box G are provided with laterally projecting leaves or wings I I, having perforations J to receive screws or bolts by which they may be secured to the under side of the body of the car.
The operation of this invention will be read ily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings here to annexed. The clip or box G serves to receive the square portion of the axle, and serves to attach the same to the body of the car, while the collar H forms a bearing for the flange 0 upon the inner side of the car-wheel.
' I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The combination, with a car-wheel having an axle-box provided with an annular flange upon its inner side, of the axle, and the clip consisting of a square box having an outwardly-projecting collar or flange, and pro vided at its upper edges with laterally-pro jecting perforated wings, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID WILLIAM REESE.
