WATCH-REGULATOR.

Be it known that I, CARL R'Urrnxxx, ot'J ersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and use- L; ful Improvements in Regulators for Vatches,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a-n improved regulator for watches which can be set easily and accurately to such a degree of nicety that the watch will indicate the time correctly as to seconds even.
The watch-regulators heretofore in general use cannot be adjusted to that degree ot' nicety by unskilled hands which is required for regulating the proper running ot the watch. Regulators ot' complicated construction have been devised heretofore, but, besides being more expensive, they cannot be adjusted by the layman, as they require proper implements to set the same.
My improved regulator is adapted to be set accurately without extra toolsby any one, so that the watch can be regulated and adjusted, even for small differences in time, without any difficulty; and the invention consists in applying to the longer arm ot the regulator a pivoted and slotted lever that is guided along a stop-pin ot the arm and provided atits outer end with fork that engages either anauxiliary regulator-arm or a guided and arc-shaped slide-piece, whereby the regulator is set by a greater or less stroke ot the lever more or less to one side or other ot' the regulator, as required.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a plan of my improved regulator for watches. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section on line .r x, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a detail of the lower split arm of the regulator. Figs. et, 5, and 6 are respectively a plan, a vertical transverse section on line yy, Fig. 4, and a detail of the main arm of a regulator of a modiiied construction ot' my regulator. Figs. A represents a regulator-lever which turns in the usual manner by a ring-shaped port-ion, a., on a iixed disk of the bridge B. rIhe regulator-leve A has a short arm, a, at one side ofthe ring-guide a, which arm a carries pins that engage the hair-spring, and at the other side a longer arm or index, b. The longer arm b of the regulator A. carries a lever, C, that is pivoted at d to the arm I), and guided by a recess or slot, e, along a iixed stop-piu, e', ofthe arm b, said recess or slot admitting the lever' C to be thrown on its pivot to one side or the other oi' the axis ot' the arm b. lIhe outer end oi' the lever C beyond the pivot d is made fork-shaped or recessed and adapted to engage a iixed pin, j", of an auxiliary arm, D, that is arranged immediately below the regulator-lever A, as shown clearly iu Figs. I and 2. lVhen the lever C is thrown to one side or to the other, the regulator-lever A will be shifted for a short distanceto the same side in proportion to the lateral motion oi' the lever C.

In place of the pivot d, the lever C may be guided with adisk-shaped portion, d', in a circular opening ofthe regulator-arm b, as shown in Fig. 7, the pinf of the slide-piece D passing in this case through an opening ot the arm I), so as to be engaged by the recessed end ot the lever C. Then it is desired to regulate the watch so as to overcome a fonsiderable difference in time, the regulator-arm is moved in the usual manner in one or the opposite direction, as the case may be; but whenthe watch is to be regulated l'or smaller ditt'erences ot time, so as to indicate the time correctly as to minutes and seconds, then the lever C is moved to that side to which the regulator-arm is to be set, whereby the latter is moved for a very small distance only, as the lever C throws the regulator-arm b to one side ot" a line that is drawn through the stop-pin and pin ot' the auxiliary arm D or slide-piece D.
By this means a very simple and accurate- IOO ly-working regulating mechanism is obtained7 hy which watches may be regulated with great facility, so as to indicate the time with great aeeuraey.
Having thus described inyinvention, I elaiin as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination of the regulater-bridge7 a regulator-lever pivoted thereto, an adjusting-lever fuleruined to the regulator-lever and provided with a forked or recessed outer end, and an auxiliary arm or slide-piece having a fixed pin that is engaged by the forked end of the adjusting-lever, so as to shift the regulator-lever to the saine and in proportion to the motion of the adj listing-lever, substantially as set forth.
