Description
IUNITED STATES PATE OFFICE.
LEON LONDINSKY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MODE OF BINDING CAP-FRONTS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,878, dated June 26, 1860.
To all whom 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON LoNDINsKY, of New York city, in the county of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new B/Iode of Retaining the Coloring or Japan of Any Suitable Tint upon the Me tallic Binding Employed in Binding Cap- Fronts; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which letters correspond with and form a part of the specification.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand the nature of my invention, I will describe it as follows.
DeScrz'ptz'0n.-Figures l, 2 and 3, are perspective drawings of cap-fronts having japanned or colored metallic bindings (A, A, A2,) secured to the fronts (d, d, Z,) by my improved mode of forming the same into shape, so as not to break the enamel thereof;
.by means of a cushioned hammer and anvil as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. This anvil (C) is cast hollow and filled in with gutta percha as shown'at (P,) Fig. 4. The gutta percha firmly adheres to the sole leather top or pad (S) by means of glue or other adhesive substance; the leather (S) being firmly secured to the flexible body (13,) forms a substantial block for hammering the metallic strip or binding (A, A, A2,) into shapes required in the manufacture of cap fronts. The convex faces of the hammer shown at Fig. 5, are also provided with sole-leather pads or faces as shown in the drawing. Hence I am enabled to hammer the thin metal binding (A, A, A2,) around the edge of the cap front without breaking the enamel, by means of the two flexible tools shown at Figs. 4 and 5, or by means of rollers provided with similar pads.
The superiority and novelty of the above mode of binding cap fronts, is that I am enabled to employ colored or japanned metal to suit the different shades of cloth or leather used in forming ca p fronts. At the same y flexible tools substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof Ihereunto subscribe my name in the presence of two witnesses.
LEON LONDINSKY.
itnesses ALEXANDER SOHINDLER,
JAMES I. MCLEAN.
