, This invention relates to display boxes for wrist watches, bracelets, and the like articles.

An object of this invention is to provide in a display box of the character described an insert which may be removably mounted in the case of such box and which will support awrist watch, bracelet, or the like articles so that the holder with the article mounted therein may be readily removed to better show the article to the customer, and may readily be remounted within the box.

Another object of this invention is to provide a display 'box of the character described, having a wrist watch holder removably mounted within said box, and which K will be lifted upwardly upon the raising of the cover of the box.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a case of the character described, wherein the cover will stay open when such holder is lifted.

Yet another object of this invention is to provide in a Watch display box of the character described, an insert which will remain stationary while the cover is partly opened, and which will be raised by further lifting of the cover.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a strong and durable display box which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, and which shall yet be practical and eflicient to a high degree In use.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified in the construction.

' Referring now to the drawings in detail, Fig. 1 illustrates a display box 10 in accordance with the present invention. The box consists of a case portion 11, a cover or lid 12, and a wrist watch band or bracelet mounting insert 13.

The case portion 11 of the box of Fig. 1 is formed with a bottom wall 14, an upwardly and forwardly extending front wall section 15, a backwardly leaning lip 16 atop wall 15, a short shelf at the rear of the case comprised of an upwardly and rearwardly leaning portion 17, a raised horizontal shelf member 18, an inclined upwardly and rearwardly extending back wall 19, and a pair of side walls 20.

Each side wall conforms to the shape of the other case walls, and is formed with an indented rear portion 21. Each side wall 20 is formed with a circular opening 22. Openings 22 are aligned. The top edge 23 of the side walls 20 is flat and horizontally straight as is also the top edge 19:: of the rear wall 19. Lip 16 extends upwardly beyond the level of edges 23 and 19a. The top edge 21a of portions 21 of the side walls 20 is indented inwardly from the top edge 23 of side walls 20.

The entire lower case, as well as the cover member and insert may be made of plastic, or any other suitable material.

The cover member 12 is formed with a curved top portion 24, a downwardly and outwardly extending front portion 25, and a short flat portion 26 extending downwardly from portion 25. At the back of the curved portion 24 of cover 12, a short curve portion 27 is formed. A rearwardly extending curved portion 28 projects outwardly and rearwardly from curved portion 27, and a downwardly extending fiat portion 29 formed at the end of curved portion 28. At the junction of portion 28 with curve 27, a short flange or lip 30 extends inwardly within the cover, and the lip portion 30 is formed with a rearward ridge 31. The cover portion 12 is also formed with a pair of side walls 32. Each side wall 32 of the cover is formed substantially flat and has a top edge 33 conforming to the shape of the cover top 24. The lower edge 34 of each side 32 is straight at the forward end, turns downwardly to form a leading edge 35, substantially adjacent lip 30, and continues horizontally as edge 36 to the rear end of the cover.

the rearward ends thereof, adjacent walls 35 and 36, a

hinge member 37 protrudes inwardly. Each hinge member 37 is circular and conforms in size to enter hole 22 in the case. Each hinge member 37 is formed with a recess 38. The hinge members are illustrated in Figs. 2A, 2B and 20. Each recess 38 is of a generally hourglass shape, having curved top and bottom walls 39 and a right angle wedge 40 extending inwardly from each side. The action of the recess 38 will be explained hereinafter.

The means for mounting and displaying the watch with the watch band or bracelet (not shown) is embodied in an insert 13, which can be removably mounted or attached within the box. The insert is formed of an extremely flexible material, such as certain plastics. The insert has a central forward portion 41 having a lower edge 42 extending downwardly. A pair of outwardly extending wing members 43 and 44 are formed from the central portion 41. The wing members 43 and 44 are spaced from each other and have a short wall 45 formed between them at the central portion. Each wing 43 and 44 is curved and bends back rearwardly of the central portion 41. The upper pair of wings 43 are broader vertically than the lower wings 44, so that wings 44 extend slightly outwardly beyond the extreme ends of wings 43. A horizontal tab 46 is formed at the top outward edge of outwardly extending tongues or tabs 66.

Since the recesses 38 of hinge members 37 are formed with their long axes vertically when the cover is in closed position, and. the tab 48 is on a vertical plane, the tab 48 will rest at a position in relation to the recess as, illustrated in Fig. 2A of the drawing. However, when the cover portion 12 is partially lifted upwards, the

hinge member 37 will turn on its axis bringing the wedges ,40 into contact with the sides of the tab 48, as illustrated in, Fig. 2B. Up to this point no movement of the insert '13 will occur. However, when the cover member 12 is lifted vertically to its full extent, the wedges 40 Will press uponthe tabs 48 causing the insert 13 to be lifted as the hinges 37 are rotated about their axes, as may be seen in Fig. 2C, and as illustrated by the solid lines of Fig. 2.

The weight of the insert 13 will tend, through its tabs 48, to rotate the cover back to its original position. However, the ridge 31 on the lip 30 within the cover member 12 is formed around the top edge of the rear wall 19 of the case member, when'the cover is fully opened, forming a tension lock therewith, and a greater force is required to unlock this relationship than could normally be exerted by the weight of the insert and cover even with a watch mounted on the insert.

In order to mount a watch on the insert 13, the upper pair of wings 43 are pressed inwardly, and the watch with the band slipped over the wings 43. Thereafter the watch case will overlie the central portion 41 of the insert, the lower edge of the watch band will rest upon the upper edges of wings 44 and the upper edge of the watch band will be held down by tabs 46 on wings 43.

It may be seen that when the display box is closed, the watch will be held in a horizontal position within the case'and the cover. However, when the cover of the box is opened fully, the insert will be automatically lifted by the hinges 37, and the cover secured by ridge 31 contacting the upper edge of wall 19 and the watch will be displayed at an angle lifted up out of the box .on the insert.

A second embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in Figs. 4 to 7, wherein a watch display box 50 is shown having a case 51, a cover 52 and an insert 53 which'may be made of resilient plastic material. The case member is rectangular and may be formed with a vertical wall 54 and a bottom wall 57. The cover member 52 maybe of any usual construction and is attached to the case'by means of hinges 63.

The insert 53 has a front vertical wall 64 from which extend rearwardly curved spring wings 65 provided with A pair of notches 67 may be formed at opposite sides of the case '51 in the side walls 54 thereof in order to receive tabs 66 of insert 53. The upper edges 71*are more inclined than the lower edges 72. Wings 70 are inward of wings 65. Ledges 76 extend outwardly from the rear upper ends of edges 71. The upper end of insert 53 projects above the upper end of the case 51. A wrist watch may be mounted on the insert 53 to rest on wings 65 and engage below the holding tabs 76. The insert together with the watch may be readily removed from the, case.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood thatall matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in alimiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: i

l. A display box comprising a case open at the top and having a pair of opposite walls, a cover hinged to the case, and a holder for a wrist watch or like banded article, said holder having a central portion, a pair of curved lower wings extending rearwardly from the central portion, means on the case and on the outer ends of said wings for detachable interengagement, and said holder having a pair of upper rearwardly curved Wings to receive the article to be held, said holder being made of resilient material so that the lower wings may be pressed together to disengage the holder from the case.

2. The combination of claim 1, said lower wings extending outwardly of the upper wings so that the" article on the holder may rest on the lower wings.

3. The combination of claim 2, and means on the upper edges of the upper wings to hold such article down on the lower wings. i

4. In combination, a case having a pair of opposite side walls formed with aligned round openings, a cover formed with round hinge members journalled within said openings, said round hinge members eachbeing formed with hour-glass-shaped recesses, and a holder for banded articles having resilient wings formed With outwardly extending tongues received within said recesses in said hinge members.

5. In combination, a case having a pair of opposite side walls formed with bearing openings, a cover for the case having side walls formed with inwardly extending hinge members journalled within said openings, said I hinge members being formed with recesses, a holder for a banded article within the case and having resilient wings formed with outwardly extending tabs received within the recesses, said recesses being so shaped that the cover will have a lost motion connection 'with the holder as the cover is raised through a predetermined angle from closed position, and said cover will raise the holder as the cover is raised further to fully open position. V

6. The combination of claim 5, said cover having a rear wall formed with an upper edge, said cover being formed with a flange adapted to be received at the inside of the rear cover of the case when the cover is closed, and means on said flange to engage the rear of the upper edge of the rear wall of the case 'when the cover is fully open, to retain the cover in fully open position.

7. A display box comprising a case, said case being formed with :a pair of openings at the rearward end thereof, a cover for said case being formed with .a pair of inwardly projecting hinge members at the rearward end thereof, said hinge members being engaged'intosaid openings in said ease member, said hinge members being formed with recesses therein, a holder for a wristwatch being formed with a central portion and having upper and lower pairs of outwardly and rearwardly extending curved wing'members extending therefrom, the lower pair of said wing members being formed with outwardly extending tabs, said tabs being insertable into said recesses in said hinges.

8. The combination of claim 7, said recesses being wide at the ends and narrow in the center so as to engage said tabs when rotated.

9. The combination of claim 7, a lip member extending within said cover member, a ridge on said lip member, said ridge being engageable with an edge of said case when said cover is fully opened.

6 10. The combination of claim 7, said upper pair of wing members being formed with horizontal tabs extending outwardly from the upper outer ends thereof.
