2 Claims. (Cl. 206-4514) This invention relates to the display of articles such as pens, pencils or the like and to a package for displaying such articles.
Objects of the invention are to provide a package which is simple and economical in construction, which can be assembled and disassembled quickly and easily and which displays an article to advantage while protecting it from dust and tampering.
In one aspect the present invention involves the combination of a box and a sheet of resilient, transparent material which is shorter but wider than the box and which is fitted into the box in arched condition with its lateral edges seating against the bottom of the box at the sides, together with a clip or other means to hold the article against the underside of the sheet, whereby the article is protected by the sheet while plainly visible. Preferably the sheet has a small opening to receive the clip and in the preferred embodiment it has two openings spaced lengthwise of the box, one for insertion of a clip from the bottom and the other to receive the ball of the clip, thereby to hold the article in alignment with the box.
In another aspect the invention involves a package comprising a box, a sheet of resilient transparent material which is shorter but wider than the box and which is fitted into the box in arched condition with its lateral edges seating against the bottom of the box at the sides, together with the article to be displayed and means to hold the article against the underside of the sheet.
For the purpose of illustration a typical embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. l is a plan view;
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. l.
The particular embodiment of the invention chosen for the purpose of illustration comprises a box 1 which may be formed of any suitable material such as cardboard. Fitted into the box is a sheet 2 of transparent material such as celluloid, the sheet being shorter but wider than the box so that it is held in arched position by engagement of its lateral edges against the bottom of nited States Patent Q the box at the sides. Extending through the sheet 2 near one end of the box are two openings 3 and 4, the opening 3 for insertion of the clip 5 from the bottom and the opening 4 to receive the ball of the clip, thereby to hold the article in alignment with the box.- Preferably the sheet 2 is not attached to the box so that it, together with the article, may be lifted from the box for closer inspection of the article or for removal of the article from the box. To return the article to the box the sheet 2 is flexed and placed in the box in the position shown in the drawings.
It should be understood that the present disclosure is for the purpose of illustration only and that this invention includes all modifications and equivalents which fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. For displaying pens, pencils and'other articles, a package comprising a box, a sheet of resilient transparent material which is shorter but wider than the box and which is fitted into the box in arched condition with its lateral edges seating against the bottom of the box at the sides, the sheet being long enough substantially to cover the article and being unattached to the box and held in position by its own resiliency so that it may be removed from the box for examination of the article, the sheet engaging the box only at its edges and being stiff enough to support the article, the sheet having a clip opening, and an article having a clip inserted through said opening from the bottom holding the article against the underside of the sheet, whereby the article is protected by the sheet while plainly visible.
2. For dispensing pens, pencils and other articles, a package comprising a box, a sheet of resilient transparent material which is shorter but wider than the box and which is fitted into the box in arched condition with its lateral edges seating against the bottom of the box "at the sides, the sheet being long enough substantially to cover the article and being unattached to the box and held in position by its own resiliency so that it may be removed from the box for examination of the article, the sheet engaging the box only at its edges and being still enough to support the article, the sheet having two openings and an article having a clip inserted through one of said openings from the bottom holding the article against the underside of the sheet with the ball of the clip seated against the article through the other opening to hold the article in alignment with the box.
