MOUNTING MEANS FOR DISHED FLUSH-TYPE RECEPTACLES Jan. 6, 1959 Filed Nov. 22, 1954 William E. Bragg IN VEN TOR. BY fiuwy fiMg United rates Patent MOUNTING MEANS FOR DISHED FLUSH-TYPE RECEPTACLES William E. Bragg, Springfield, Mo.
Application November 22, 1954, Serial No. 470,337
1 Claim. (Cl. 248-47) My invention relates to brackets for mounting a dished flush-type receptacle in a wall opening, and is designed as an improvement on the mounting means for such receptacles disclosed in my co-pending application Serial No. 348,494, filed April 13, 1953, now Patent No. 2,767,945 issued October 23, 1956.
The primary object of this invention is to simplify and reduce the cost of manufacture of such devices and render the same easier to apply in a wall opening.
Other and subordinate objects, together with the precise nature of my improvements, will become apparent when the succeeding description and claims are read with reference to the drawing accompanying and forming part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in perspective partly broken away and illustrating my improved bracket mounting the receptacle in a wall opening;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in perspective viewed from the rear of the bracket and receptacle;
Figure 3 is an enlarged view in vertical transverse section taken on the line 33 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a view in perspective of the bracket detached.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, my improved bracket comprises a dished plate 1 of resilient material, generally rectangular in form, and substantially semicircular in cross section and which is of a size to extend rearwardly into a rectangular opening 3 in a wall 5 for receiving the conventional flush-type dished receptacle 7 for a toilet paper roll 9 mounted in bearing ears 11 on a flat frame 13 of the receptacle adapted to fit flush against the wall 5.
The plate 1 is provided with a pair of out-turned relatively shorter flanges 15 at opposite longitudinal edges thereof, and at the ends of each flange 15 with a pair of forwardly extending flat corner lugs 17 on each of said edges lying in the arc of said plate 1 and at right angles to said flanges 15, and which are integral with the plate 1 and are straight and flat and preferably formed with a screw-receiving aperture 19 therein. The flanges 15 are formed by cutting the material to form the lugs 17 and then bending the material between the lugs 17 to form the flanges between the pairs of lugs. Transverse beads 21 crimped into plate 1 at the ends of the flanges 15 reinforce the plate.
In applying the described invention, the plate 1 is sprung by hand or by a tool so that the flanges 15 are spaced apart a distance less than the height of the opening 3 and is then inserted rearwardly into said opening so that it will react, when released, and expand to position the flanges 15 against the rear side of the wall 5 at the longitudinal edges of the opening and the lugs 17 will engage, with a friction gripping action, said edges,
The lugs 17 may then 7 all as shown in Figures 2 and 3. be fastened to said edges by screws, as at 23. The receptacle 7 is then inserted rearwardly into the plate 1 and secured thereto by screws 25 in the back thereof turned into suitable openings 27 in the back of the plate 1 adjacent the ends of said plate, all as in my aforesaid application.
If desired, the screws 23 may be eliminated and the friction gripping action of the lugs 17 relied upon to secure the plate 1 in place.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suflice to impart a clear understanding of my invention, Without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is:
A bracket for mounting a flush type receptacle on a wall with a portion of the receptacle extending through a rectangular opening in the wall, said bracket comprising a resilient body portion formed of sheet material, the body portion being rectangular in elevation and substantially semi-circular in vertical cross-section, said body portion having edge portions disposed parallel to the axis of curvature thereof, a pair of straight flat corner lugs extending from each of said edges as continuations of said body portion, and a pair of outturned longitudinal flanges on said edges, said flanges being disposed intermediate the lugs of its respective edge and at right angles thereto for engagement with the rear side of the wall adjacent the opening therein, said mounting bracket being formed from a single originally rectangular plate.
