PAPER PRODUCT ROLL DISPENSER John A. Ritchie, Pointe Claire, Quebec, Canada Application March 12, 1956, Serial No. 570,917
3 Claims. (Cl. 206-58) This invention relates generally to material dispensers and is more particularly concerned with a novel paper product roll dispenser.
At present advised, facial tissue has generally been packaged in rectangular boxes wherein a plurality of layers of the tissue are folded rectangularly and interfolded wherein when one of the tissues is removed it makes available an end portion of an underlying or adjacent tissue.
tainer for the paper roll wherein means are provided on the container. for dispensing individual severable sheets of a roll of paper product material from an end aperture of the container.
A further object of invention in conformance with that set forth is to provide a dispensing container including in one end wall portion thereof a centrally located removable portion defining an access portion in the container, and further including a roll of paper product material such as facial tissue, hand towels, toilet tissue, etc. which comprises a continuous roll of a plurality of severable sheets of the material disposed within the container with an end portion of said roll adjacent the re movable or access portion of said container, the innermost sheet of the roll of paper product material being located adjacent the access portion of the container and, if preferred, being suitably secured to an inner portion of the removable portion of the container by an adhesive, staple or the like, whereby when the same is removed, the end portion of the paper product material will be drawn through the access portion of the container, said access portion serving as a severing means for readily dispensing individual sheets of paper product material.
A further object of invention in conformance with that set forth is to provide a novel paper product roll material dispenser of the character set forth which is readily and economically manufactured, easily used, and highly satisfactory and utilitarian for the purpose intended.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter Un t S at s Pa ent material being broken away and shown in section, further showing in dotted lines the manner in which the access portion of the container is formed in the wall thereof wherein an inner end portion of the roll of paper product material is drawn through the access portion; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view, on a reduced scale, of the roll of paper product material utilizedin the dispenser.
Referring to the drawings in detail, thenovel paper roll material dispenser indicated generally at includes a container member 12 having end portions 14 and 16 connected to side walls 18, 20, 22 and 24. The container member may be formed of any suitable material, howdescribed and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the novel paper product roll material dispenser showing an end portion of the paper product material drawn through the access portion of the container;
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken substan tially on line 2- 2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the novel dispenser with portions of the container broken away and shown in section, a portion of the roll of paper product ever, for the purpose of economy it is constructed from a suitable cardboard material, and although being shown as being rectangular it may also take the configuration of a cylinder or any other suitable shape. The sides and ends are suitably secured in any convenient manner, for example, by means of a longitudinally extending flange 26, see Figure 2 and a transverse flange 28, see Figure 3.
The end wall 14 has centrally located therein a removable portion 30 defined by a scored or perforated section 32 defining an access or central apertureportion 34 in said end wall.
Indicated generally at 36 is a roll of paper product material which comprises a continuous roll of individual sheets of paper product material indicated at 38, each of the sheets 40 being defined by a transverse perforation 42 extending across said roll of material, the outermost sheet 44, see Figure 2, may be suitably secured, if desired, in any suitable manner to an inner surface portion of an adjacent side wall, 20 for example, howevensuch securementis not necessary for the proper functioning of the invention as will-be apparent. The ends 46 and 48 of the roll 36 will be located adjacent the inner surface of the end Walls 14 and 16, respectively, with the innermost sheet 50 of the roll of paper material having its ,corner 52 suitably secured to an adjacent under surface portion of the removablev portion 30 of the container.
Thus as seen in Figure 3, removal of the portion 30 results in pulling the corner of the innermost sheet through access portion 34 away from the roll. The innermost sheet will be pulled away from the roll along the transverse perforations 42 or at right angles to the ends of the roll of paper material, as the innermost sheet is pulled from access portion 34, a corner of the next following sheet will be pulled through access portion 34. As each sheet to be torn is pulled through the access portion 34, each next following sheet will have sufficient frictional engagement with the access portion 34 to cause severing of the perforations 42 and removal of one sheet at a time. As previously mentioned, removal of one innermost sheet results in a corner portion of the next following sheet extending through the access portion 34 in an available position for subsequent removal.
Thus the container 12 with the roll of paper product material 36 contained therein may be sold as a unit, the container 12 providing means thereof for readily applying the name and advertising material of a product, directions for use, etc., and the container may be placed in the lavatory, kitchen, etc. wherein the roll of paper product material will be readily accessible and dispensible from modifications andchanges will readily occur to those skilledimme art, it is not desired tolimit-the invention to the exact construction-and operation shown and described, and accordingly,"all suitable modifications and :equivalents may be resorted to', falling within thescope of the invention as claimed.
'-"'What is claimed as newis-as-follows: I -l. lncombination, a'dispensingcontainer,one end wall sheets of the-r'oll,- the innermost end portion of the roll of paperproduct materialbeing secured to an adjacent inner -surface portion of the removable portion of the-container wherein removal of the removable portion results in draw- 1 ing the end portion-of theroll of material through the *access aperture portion 1 therein.
2. In combination, a dispensing container, oneendwall ofthe container including a centrallylocated'removable portion defining an access aperture portion inthe end of the container, and a continuous roll of severable ma- -terial comprisedof a plurality of individual severable "sheets, said sheets being defined by transverse perforation portions in-the paperzproduct material, said roll having an end portion disposed-adjacent the end wallof 'the containerwhich includesdheremovable portion, the end of theinnermost sheet'ofthe roll of material being lo- "'cated beneath. the removable portion of the container,
removal ofsaid removable portion defining an access portion serving as means of removing and severing the individual'severable sheets of'the roll, said container cornsquare cross-section; said roll-of'paper 'product'material being elongated and longitudinally disposed within said box, the inner width of the container being substantially equal to the diameter of the roll of material, a corner portion of the innermost sheet being secured to and removable with the removable portion whereby the plurality of individual severable sheets may be dispensed one at a time.
3. In-combination, a dispensing container, one end wall of the container including a centrally located removable portion defining an access aperture portion in the end of the container,alcontinuous convolutedroll of severable material comprised of a pluralityof individual severable sheets, said sheets being defined by transverse perforation portions in the severable material parallel to the longitudinal axis of said roll, said roll having an inner end portion disposed adjacent the end wall of the container including the removable portion; the innermost sheet of the roll ofmaterial including a corner located beneath the removable portion of the container, said removable portion comprising means defining an access and severing aperture portion for removing and separating 'the sheets 'from 'the'roll as they are withdrawn 'one-by-one through theaceess 'andsevering aperture whereby the'next succeeding sheet will have a free corner extending through said apertureythe'width of said aperture being relatively narrow as'compared'withthe overall length of thesheets of the roll.
