1 Claim. (Cl. 126-9) The object of the invention is to provide a camp stove of which the body portion is in the form of a case which, when opened, exposes all the working parts, but when closed, acts as a transporting means for the whole; to provide a device of the kind indicated in which the case houses the fuel tanks, the active tank as well as the spare; and generally to provide a camp stove which is of simple construction, reduced to a minimum number of parts, and of a character to make it susceptible of cheap manufacture and sale.

With this object in view, the invention consists of a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the invention in operative position;

Figure 2 is a planned view of the invention in folded position, but with the cover removed;

Figure 3 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Figure Figure 4 is a detailed elevational view illustrating the end of the case and the upper portion of the fuel tank with the fitting by which the tank is connected to the burners; and

Figure 5 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 5-5 of Figure 3.

The case is, in form, similar to a travelling case, but is preferably made of metal with the bottom, adjacent the front and rear walls, formed to provide the chambers 11 and 12, which are open on the bottom, and in which are held the

fuel tanks

13 and 14, the front and rear walls being split to provide the spring fingers 15 which hold the tanks in place. It is obvious that the latter may be inserted in the chambers or withdrawn therefrom merely by flexing the fingers 15. Within the case are mounted the burners 16 and 17 connected with the header 18 to which a fuel pipe 19 is connected and is terminally passed through one end wall of the case and terminates in an angular nipple 20.

To this nipple, a fuel tank is connected by means of the fitting 21 which is of conventional form so that it may be coupled to the nipple and which is provided with a hand valve 22 by which the rate of the feed of the fuel to the header can be controlled. The tanks, of course, are intended to be equipped with valves which are normally closed except when the fitting is attached, the fitting having means for unseating the valves upon its being attached to a tank. When the fuel of one tank is exhausted, the fitting is removed therefrom and the cap 23 of the other tank is removed and replaced with the fitting. On the interior, the case is provided with a grate support 24 on which rests the grate 25.

The cover 26 is hinged to the case as indicated at 27 and on the opposite flange from that on which the hinges are mounted is provided with a slot 28 which, when the lid is closed, springs over a staple-like keeper 29, so that the latter may be entered by the bolt 30 which retains the cover in closed position.

In use, the case is supported on the legs 31 which enter sockets in the underside and, to shield the burners from breezes or strong winds, side shields 32 are employed, these having lugs 33 which engage the upper edge of the case and the under edge of the cover. They thus serve to hold the cover open, as well as to shield the burners.

When the device is not in use, the shields are laid down on top of the grate and the legs, after being withdrawn from their sockets, are snapped into the clips 34. Then the lid is closed and bolted and the device is ready to be transported, the fuel tank previously in use, of course, being disconnected and snapped into its receiving chamber. The handle 35 constitutes the means for easy transportation of the device.

The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:

In a camp stove structure, a case having a bottom of rectangular shape, side and end walls of equal height rising from the edges of said bottom, said bottom having portions inwardly of its front and rear edges bent upwardly and then outwardly and joining said side walls above the lower ends thereof to provide pockets in the side walls of said case, and those portions of said side walls adjacent to said pockets having spaced slits extending upwardly from the lower edges of said walls to provide between them spring fingers having their free ends extending into said pockets.
