1 Claim. (Cl. 198-176) My invention relates to improvements in conveyor chain flights.
This invention relates to a conveyor chain flight made up of two mated portions which extend on both sides of a vertical link on a length of chain and amongst the objects of the invention are the provisions of means for securing the two portions together and to the link whereby said link is securely clamped between the portions, the portions are retained in strict alignment at all times and play cannot develop between the connected parts which would result in excessive wear.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged section taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each ligure.
The numeral 1 indicates generally a conveyor having a bed 2 provided with side retaining walls 3 and along which material such as mill refuse and the like is adapted to be moved. An endless chain 5, consisting of horizontal and Vertical links 6 and 7 respectively, is suitably driven along the bed in the direction of the arrow 9 of Figure l, and secured to said chain at suitably spaced intervals are chain flights 12 according to the present invention.
Each ght 12 is made up of mated portions 14 and 15 of channel section and each of said portions has a front wall or web 17, a top ange 18 and a bottom ange 19 which is adapted to bear upon the bed 2 and to slide therealong. The portions 14 and 15 are provided with opposing inner end walls 21 and 22 respectively. As shown in Figure 4 only the flanges 18 and 19 of the portion 15 are provided with aligned openings 24 which provide access for a fastening device to be described later.
Projecting outwardly from the end wall 21 of the portion 14 is a centrally disposed hollow spigot 26 having a front wall 27, top and bottom walls 28 and 29 respectively, an end wall 30 and a rear wall 31 which is shaped to provide a shoulder 32, see particularly Figure 3. A slot 34 is formed in the end wall 30, which slot communicates with an opening 3S in the rear wall 31. The top and bottom walls 28 and 29 are provided with aligned openings 37, see Figures 3 and 4, the purpose of which will appear later.
The inner end wall 22 of the portion 15 is provided with an opening 41 which communicates with a socket 42 dened in part by a rear wall 43 and an end wall 44. An opening 46 is provided in the end wall 44 and formed integrally with said end wall are spaced sides 4S which project inwardly towards the wall 22 of the portion 15.
In assembling the flight upon a conveyor chain a portion 14 of a llight is placed upon the bed 2 and its spigot 26 is projected through one of the vertical links 7 so that the end wall 21 bears against said'link as shown in Figure 2. The head of a bolt is entered through the opening 35 with its adjacent shank portion being received in the slot 34 so that the free end of said bolt projects outwardly from the end wall 30. A mating portion 15 is placed upon the conveyor bed and is moved endwise to enter the spigot into the socket and project the bolt 50 through the opening 46 in the end wall 44. In this position the outer end of the spigot is slidably received between the sides 48 and when nuts 51 are fitted to the bolt and are tightened thereon the portion 15 is drawn up so as to clamp the chain link between the end walls 21 and 22. A bolt 53 is entered through one of the openings 24 and is projected through the aligned openings 37 in the spigot where it is tted with a nut 54. The spigot then cannot be withdrawn from the socket should the bolt 50 fail to function properly. Thus the two portions forming the flight are securely fastened together with the link gripped therebetween and in a manner which prevents disalignment of the llight parts.
What I claim as my invention is:
A Hight adapted for connection to a link of conveyor chain comprising a pair of aligned mated portions each having a front wall and a top and bottom flange, said portions having opposing inner end walls between which the sides of a chain link are adapted to be clamped, one inner end wall of one mated portion being provided with a hollow spigot having a slotted wall, the second mated portion enclosing a socket in which the spigot is adapted to be received, said socket having sides, and an apertured end wall, said apertured wall opposing the slotted wall, a bolt extending lengthwise of the socket for drawing the mated portions togetherand into clamping contact with the chain link, and a second bolt extending through the sides of the socket and through the spigot to hold Said mated end portions in united position.
