2 Claims. 01. 30-124 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in nail clippers and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a nail clipper so designed as to retain the clipped nails in a deposit chamber for convenient removal at a selected time.

Further objects of the invention are to provide an improved manicuring device which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, strong and durable, easily compacted to occupy a small space, of a neat appearance, effective in action, and which may be carried about without injury to the clothes or person of the user.

Other objects and'advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from a consideration of the following description of one form of device embodying the invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which- Fig. 1 is a bottom plan view of the improved nail clipper.

f Referring now more specifically to the drawings which show an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the reference numeral'ltl designates, in general, a relatively light weight type of clipper used for the purpose of manicuring nails and cuticle and consisting of a pair of elongated spring arms 11 and 12 riveted or otherwise attached at one end to each other or to the base portion 13 and provided at their other ends with mutually coacting

14 and 15, respectively, which are substantially straight and in the plane of the upper faces of the jaws. The means for actuating the cutters consists of a lever 16 pivoted at its upper end to a pin 17 rotatably mounted beneath the deposit chamber 18 and swivelled between arms 11 and 12. The deposit chamber 18 is shown as cubical in form and fitting into a square opening 24. Obviously, said chamber might be rectangular in form and fitting into a rectangular opening of any suitable desired form. The pin 17 is provided'with a head 19 at one end which holds the pin in position with respect to the arm 11 and at the other end the pin passes through a hole.

To place the implement in inoperative or carrying position from the operative position as shown in Fig. 4 all that is necessary is to swing the lever 16180 to upright position and then bear down on the cap 22 without rotating the pin 17 so that the cap 22 is in folded or carrying position and the shoe or fulcrum 21 is in the position clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

An important part of applicants invention is the novel deposit chamber 18 constructed from the blank shown in Fig. 6. This blank 6 is provided at each side with a rectangular portion a, b, c and d. The portion d located adjacent the cutting edges is substantially one-half the height of the other portions so that the clippings are more readily deposited in the deposit chamber.

The rectangular portions a, b, c and d are bent upwardly at right angles to the base e thus producing a very satisfactory container which can be easily grasped by the fingers and pushed into and out. of position due to the spring effect caused by the upward bending of the sides a, b and c.

The means to actuate the clippers or the operation of the nail clipper having been clearly described, it is clearly seen from an inspection of Fig. 5 how the nail or cuticle cuttings fall into the deposit chamber. Following the trimming operation, the operator grasps the deposit chamber wtih his fingers and easily removes same due to the spring efiect inherent in the sides a, b and c of the contai ner or deposit'chamber 18.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction wtih the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. Afmore detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there 'is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim: 1. A nail clipper of the character described comprising a pair of elongated, resilient, diverging jaw members secured together at one end, coacting blades on the free wardly to force the jaw members carrying the cutters to-- ward each other to effect the cutting of the finger nails,
