33, 34, and 35 capable of receiving the eyepiece 24 therein, thereby providing quarter turn elevation adjustment as hereinafter more fully explained.
The scale 16 and the thread in the aperture 19 and on the neck 20 are preferably of known value such as the micrometer scale or the mil scale which is adapted easily for any length barrel in conjunction with the relationship and the distance to the front sight.
As an illustration, assuming the barrel is 36 inches1 long and that a mil is the angle defined by a yard varation at 1000 yards, the index 16 can be so scaled and the thread on the neck 20 can be so angulated. Obviously, these scales can be so graduated for any other distance such as 500 yards or 250 yards and in shooting at closer distances the finer adjustment can be made with the inventive device due to the fact that the head 21 is mounted midway between the pivot 13 and the index end 9 and due to the fact that the head is pvotally mounted it can easily be aligned in parallel relationship to the lateral adjustment.
In adjusting the device, such as shooting-in a gun, the lateral correction such as `for drift and other sidewise deviation can be made by loosening the screws 13 and l5 and sliding the end 9 of the base to the desired position and then retightening the screws 13 and 15. In adjusting the device for elevation; it is only necessary to remove the eyepiece 24 and loosen the set screw 25 so that thct neck 20 can be freely turned n the bolts 18 of the base 12 or the eyepiece can be left in the head 21 to determine the amount of adjustment or turning of thc neck 20 relative to the base 12 and then relocated in the rear aperture or face of the head 21 or 29, and-it can easily be seen that a very fine adjustment can be achieved through half turns of the head 21 or quarter provided with more intersecting transverse apertures such as 3 of 4, thereby in shape.
