E/mr C- ,Swanson United VMy invention relates to a sack closure arrangement in combination with a shipping tag.

An object of my invention is to provide a device for eiciently and rmly maintaining a sack in closed condition, and yet permitting opening thereof in a convenient manner, in combination with a shipping tag arrangement.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

My invention contemplates the provision of a simple arrangement for rmly securing a stitched bag whereby the stitches are efficiently held at certain points, and yet can be readily released, and also wherein this arrangement is employed in combination with further extending portions to provide a shipping tag.

I have used the character 10 to designate an ordinary fabric or other material sack in which is stored suitable commodities, the character 11 indicating the end of the= sack to be opened, it being understood, however, that the device of my invention can be attached at any other portion of a sack as long as it is consistent with the spirit of the invention.

`I have further used the character 12 to indicate or dinary inter-locking stitching of the type shownin cross: section in Figure 6, which is of the type which is sointer-locked that the stitching is more or less rmly held,. and, however, wherein an extending end can be pulled, which releases the stitching, and it should be realized that the invention about to be described will apply to any type of inter-locking or other stitching.

To firmly secure the end of the stitching, I provide a. tag member 13, this member being preferably made off plastic, which in its original state is suiiiciently resilient as to firmly grip the stitching passing through such plastic. In this way, I thereby provide means whereby the stitching, or portions of the stitching, passes through this plastic member as shown clearly in Figure 6, the stitching including the looped portions 14 and the further por tions 15, the portions 14 passing about the portions 15 as shown. I further provide an extending portion 16, and it will thus be observed that when the extending portion 16 is firmly pulled, it will pull the inter-engaging' loops first out of the plastic tag member 13 and then rates Patent waice out of the balance of the stitching on the sack, whereby.

It should be noted that the tag extends beyond the edge 18 of the sack into an extending portion 19 to thereby provide means whereby the corner contents of the bag will not leak out, by preventing unraveling of the stitching, since the extending portion 19 will more efficiently lock the stitching against such unraveling, due to the extended length thereof. The extending portion 19 also prevents the tag itself from becoming dislodged in case of contact with other bags or articles, since if it were up to the edge of the sack only, sufficient stitching would not be provided.

If desired, the tag can also be made as shown in Figures 2 and 4 and having a thickened upper portion 20 to provide the resilient locking action, and a fiat attenuated portion 21 to provide the means for printing the tag instructions thereon, this tag also having the extending portion such as 19 as shown in Figure 2, it being understood also that other methods of supplying an attenuated portion to the arrangement can be provided.

Figure 5 is a further modification wherein the thickened portion such as 22 includes an extending portion 23 extending beyond the edge of the sack, and having an off-set attenuated portion 24 including the printing thereon, with the tag including the cut-out portion at 25 Substantially similar to the extending portion 23 to provide economy of material in forming the tag from a ilat sheet.

It will now be seen that I have provided a combination tag and closure arrangement, fulfilling the functions as set forth in the objects of my invention, and also including the advantages set forth.

Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.

I claim as my invention:

l. A combination bag opening device and shipping tag comprising a body formed of resilient material having cord retaining characteristics positioned in the normal stitching of said bag, whereby said body will lock said fstitching against release of said stitching, and whereby pulling on an extended length of said stitching Will release :the stitching from said body and said bag, said body having a substantially enlarged portion extending therefrom whereby indicia can be printed on said extending portion to provide a shipping tag, said body having an extended portion extending beyond a side edge of said bag for providing an increased stitching length beyond said side edge to thereby more eiciently secure said stitching to prevent undue unraveling of the same and to more iirmly secure said body, said body including a thickened portion through which said stitching passes, and an attenuated portion on which said indicia is printed 2.
