Description

INVENTOR 4N7waA/Y/V07Aeo AT ORNEY D86. 3, N Q I LIQUID TOY DEVICE Filed April 14, 1955 United States Patent LIQUID TGY DEVICE Anthony Notaro, Paterson, N. J.
Application April 14, '1955,Serial No. 501,320
8 Claims. (Cl. 4614) This invention relates to toy devices and is more particularly directed to a toy device wherein a liquid may be selectively drawn into "a pumping member from a simulated tub, or discharged from a shower opening and into said tub, thereby simulating the act of draining water from a tub and discharging water from a shower head, in the conventional tub and shower arrangement.
Pursuant to the invention, the discharge opening for the shower or the discharge opening for the tub may be selectively closed by any suitable means and, upon actuation of the liquid pumping member, the selective 'action above mentioned may be obtained. The invention lends itself admirably to manufacture in attractive and sturdy form, providing a stimulating and entertaining toy.
These and other advantageous objects, which will appear from the drawings and from the description hereinafter, are accomplished by the structure of my invention, of which an embodiment is illustrated in the drawings. It will be apparent, from a consideration of said drawings and the following description, that the invention may be embodied in other forms suggested thereby, and such other forms as come within the scope of the appended claims are to be considered within the scope and purview of the instant invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal fragmentary sectional view of a liquid toy device embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal partly fragmentary, partly secrtional view there-of, taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of said device.
As shown in the drawings, the device of this invention comprises an elongated standard having opposite faces 10, 11 and having a transverse aperture 13 opening into said opposite faces. The standard is provided with an elongated recess 14 which may be formed therein (or in a thickened or built-up portion 15 thereof as shown in Fig. 2). Said elongated recess 14 opens at opposite ends 16, 17 into the opposite faces of the standard. One opening 16 of the recess 14 is disposed at a substantially higher plane than the second opening 17 thereof, and serves as a shower discharge opening. A liquid pumping member 18 is fitted as at 29, 30, onto said second opening 17 of the recess and onto the transverse opening 13 at that side of the standard. A simulated tub unit 25 has an aperture 26 fitted onto the transverse recess 13 of the opposite side 11 of the standard. Suitable plug means may be provided for selective closure of the simulated tub unit aperture 26 or the shower head aperture 16 so that the liquid 27 controlled by the device may be selectively, on actuation of the liquid pumping member 18, forced through the elongated recess 14 and out of the liquid discharge opening 16, and thus, into the tub 25 or are drawn into the liquid pumping member 18 through the tub aperture 26.
The second opening 17 of the elongated recess 14 is preferably disposed, as shown in Fig. 1, at a plane above that of the transverse aperture 13. If desired, a discharge ice 2 head 28 may be secured to the standard in registry with the s howerdischarge opening '16. g
I The liquid pumping member 18 may be of. any desired or convenient form, as, for example, a flexible bulb, such as shown in Fig. 1 which may be provided'with the hollow neck portions 29, 3'0 fitted onto the second opening 17' of the recess and onto the transverse opening "13 at "tached to the standard or other part for convenience of use and to prevent loss thereof, or, as shown in Fig. 1, a single plug in the form of a cork 32 may be provided to be selectively inserted into the aperture 26 of the tub 25, or into the shower discharge opening 16 (or into the discharge head 28) to close the same. A single cork 32 may be provided for the purpose, or a pair of plugs used, as desired.
The standard 10 and tub 25 may be formed as a single or connected unit or may be incorporated into a framework to simulate an enclosed unit, with such accessories as desiredfor example, curtain and rod 34, 35, towel rack 36 and the like.
The drawings illustrate one of many practical forms of embodiment of the invention, wherein the standard 11 is shown provided with the elongated recess 14 opening into apertures 13, 16. The standard 11 may, instead of being formed of relatively hard material, as suggested in the drawings, be formed of flexible material of similar outline or formed as a flexible or inflexible tube, one end of which is connected to a pressure member such as 18, and the other end of which terminates in or is connected with an aperture 16, so that the pressure member may be used to discharge the liquid from the end of such tube and draw liquid in from the tub 25, as desired. The word standard as used in this specification and claims, therefor, shall be deemed to include a flexible or other tube in accordance with the above description.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A liquid toy device comprising an elongated standard having opposite faces and having a transverse aperture opening into said opposite faces, said standard having an elongated recess opening, at opposite ends, into said opposite faces of the standard, one opening of the recess being disposed at a substantially higher plane than the second opening thereof and serving as a shower discharge opening, a liquid pumping member fitted onto the second opening of the recess at one face of the standard and onto the transverse aperture opening at that side of the standard, a simulated tub unit disposed adjacent the opposite face of the standard having an apertured portion connected to the transverse aperture means for selective closure of the simulated tu'b unit aperture or the shower head aperture so that liquid may selectively, on actuation of the liquid pumping member, be forced through the elongated recess and out of the liquid discharge opening, or drawn into the liquid pumping member from the simulated tub aperture.
2. In a liquid toy device as set forth in claim 1, said recess second opening being disposed at a plane above that of the transverse aperture.
3. In a liquid toy device as set forth in claim 1, a discharge head secured to the standard in registry with the shower discharge opening. i
4. In a liquid toy device as set forth in claim 1, said pumping member comprising a flexible bulb.
5. In a liquid toy device as set forth in claim 1, said pumping member comprising a flexible tub having hollow neck portions fitted onto the second opening of the recess and onto the transverse aperture opening at that side of the standard.
6. In a liquid toy device as set forth in claim 1, said tub unit being fitted onto the transverse recess by being provided with a hollow neck portion into which said tub aperture opens, said neck portion being fitted onto said recess.
7. In a liquid toy device as set forth in claim 1, said liquid pumping member having neck portions'so fitted onto the second opening of the recess. I
8. A liquid toy device comprising a standard having an elongated recess and having openings into said recess,
"one opening being disposed at one side of the standard at a substantially higher plane than the'second opening thereof and serving as a shower discharge opening, said s-tand- 20 ard having a transverse aperture, a liquid pumping memher fitted onto the second opening and onto the transverse aperture at the other side of the standard, a simulated tub unit having an aperture, means connecting said tub unit aperture with the transverse aperture of the standard at the first mentioned one side of the standard, and plug means for selective closure of the simulated tub unit aperture or the shower discharge opening, so that liquid may be selectively, on actuation of the liquid pumping member, be forced through the elongated recess and out of the liquid discharge opening, or drawn into the liquid pumping member from the simulated tub aperture.
