This invention relates to closure devices and more particularly to a device for preventing loss of the closure cap of the container.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a fastening device having means whereby a closure cap may be secured in assembly with a tube or bottle with which it is associated so that it cannot be lost or separated -from the container.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a closure device of the above type wherein a pair of hingedly connected bail members are each in rotatable engagement with one of the closure cap or container elements so that these elements can be disassembled to remove the contents from the container, but which prevent the complete disassembly thereof.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a closure device bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and eificient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view of a closure device made in accordance with the present invention in operative use; and
Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view of the fastenin-g elements of the closure device shown in Figure 1.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a closure cap made in accordance with the present invention is shown in operative association with a flexible type tube 12. This cap 10 includes a base 14 having an internally threaded socket 1'8 and an outwardly disposed head 15 for efiecting rotation of the cap between a released and a secured position with respect to the base or outlet 19 of the tube. The outlet 19 is externally threaded and adapted to be threadingly received within the threaded opening 18 in the base of the closure cap. An annular recess 17 is defined between the head and base portions thereof and has an aXial length corresponding somewhat to the length of the threaded outlet 19.
As is more clearly shown in Figure 2, the fastening device includes a pair of similar bail members 21, 22,
each of which is formed of a wire-like material. One end of the bail is in the form of a circle defining a circular opening 23, while the opposite end thereof is also in the form of a circle of smaller dimensions and defines a circular bearing type opening 25. Each bail member is of substantially L-shaped configuration, and is adapted to be rotatably secured together by a transversely extending bearing pin 27 that is received within the juxtaposed bearing portions 25, 26. The enlarged circular-opening 23 of one bail member 21 is rotatably received within the annular recess 17 between the head and base of closure cap 10, while the other circular portion of the other bail member 22 is rotatably supported upon the base of the outlet 19 of the tube 12. Thus, each enlarged circular opening defining portion of the bails lies in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the closure cap container, while each bearing portion 25, 26, lies in a plane that contains the longitudinal axis of the closure cap and container.
In use, the closure cap 10 may be rotated to disengage the base or outlet of the tube, the slot 17 being long enough to permit the vertical or axial movement of the closure cap with respect to the container 12 during this rotation, and after which the closure cap 10 may be rotated to the position 10a about the axis of the pivot pin 27, whereupon the contents of the tube may be emptied. Thus, while the closure cap is in assembled relationship with the tube, it permits the contents to be removed, after which the closure cap may be replaced.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is: I
-In combination with a container an'd a closure cap, a fastener for releasably securing said cap in assembled relationship with said container comprising a pair of identical bail members each having a circular member lying lying in a plane perpendicular to the longitudal axis of said container and closure cap elements for rotatably engaging either one of separate container and closure cap elements, another portion of each of said bail members defining a bearing portion lying in a plane common to the plane of said closure cap and longitudinal axis of said container, said bearing portions comprising juxtaposed annular members, and fastening means comprising a pin extending through openings defined by said annular members rotatably securing said bearing portions together.
