UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
cnonen R. OANNEFAX," or DIXON, MISSOURI.
MIDDLlNGS-PURIFIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 280,571, dated July 3, 1883.
Application filed March 3, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it'nmy concern Be it known that I, GEORGE B. OANNEFAX, a citizen of the United States, and a resident at Dixon, in the county of Pulaski and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Middlingslu'rifiers;v and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a vertical sectional view of my machine, and Figs. 2 and 3 are cross-sectional views of the same.
This invention has relation to middlingspurifiers; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.
I11 the accompanying drawings, the letter A. designates thebolt-case, having the open ings B made through the inclined lower walls, 0, of the case at its tail end.
D D represent slats arranged in series one above another, each, however, being set back somewhat at'its front or inner edge from the slat below it, so that the series of slats is inclined to correspond with the slope of the lower wall, 0, of the bolt-case. The slats are provided with end journals, 6, which are seated in bearings in a frame. Each series of slats is provided with an ope'ratingrod, g, whereby all the slats of the series can be turned at the same time.
H indicates a flaring pipe or draft-chainber, the wide mouth of which is attached to .the wall 0 of. the bolt-case, so that it registers 1 k, thereof, with which the draft-pipe L communicates. The series of slats D is arranged in the mouth of the draft-chamber, the inner edges of the slats projecting inward sufficiently to deliver the middlings falling from the bolt ing-reel M thereon to the conveyer N below.
P represents a suction-fan, which operates, in connection with the pipe L, to draw the red dog and dust from the bolt-case through the openings between the slats D, and to discharge the same through a pipe, B, into a dust-room or other place of deposit. At a convenient through the pipe L to fall into a box or re ceptacle, V, which is attached to the bottom of the pipe under the check-fan T. This receiver is provided with a slide, 10, in its discharge-opening z, and the middlings in the receiver can from time to time be taken therefrom and returned to the bolt.
The draft through the pipe L can be regulated by means of a valve, J, or slide, arranged in connection with an opening, I, which is preferably made at some point in the pipe between the draft-chamber H and the check-fan T. As the middlings sift down from the reel on the slats D the draft draws the dust and fine bran out of the middlings, leaving them clear and white. Besides purifying the middlings, the attachment ventilates the bolt, taking out the heated air and preventing the bolting-cloth from sweating.
By manipulating the rod 9 the slats can be turned to provide smaller or larger interspaces, so that the draft can be regulated at the mouth of the draft-chamber or opening through the wall of the bolt-case.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The combination, with the bolt-case A, having the inwardly-sloping lower walls, 0, provided with the openings B, of the inclined series of pivoted slats D and their operatingrods 9, located at the tail end of the bolt-case, the flaring draftchamber H, the mouths of which register with the openings B, the pipe L, SllOtl0l1-fEtll P, and pipe R, substantially as specified.
2. In a purifying attachment for flour-bolts, the combination, with the draft-chamber and its series of adjustable slats, of the draft-pipe,
suction-fan,check-fan and receiver under said check-fan, and the regulating-valve, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORG ll RAllFORl) CANNEFAX.
