Description

.(No Model.)
J. DELINE.
4 MILK GOOLER. No. 280,359. Patented; July 3, 1883.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. 7
JEREMIAH DELINE, OF AKRON, OHIOV MILK-COOLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 280,359, dated July 3, 1883.
Application filed January 30, 1883. (No model.)
ments in milk-coolers; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the icereceptacle, its air chamber, and depending waste-water tube and central pivot-bearing,
all of which will be hereinafter more fully explained.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention, in which the figure represents a vertical sectional View of my improved milk-cooler or other vesse Referring to the drawing by letters, A designates a milk or other can, constructed in any suitable manner, having the usual opening or mouth a in the top thereof.
13 indicates the cooler, consisting of an outer shell or casing, b, an ice-receptacle, c, and a vertical'tube, d, and is provided with a lid, e.
Between the outer shell, I), and the ice-receptacle c is provided an air-chamber, f, which is open at the bottom and closed at the top by the annular rim 9, that connects the shell with the upper end of the receptacle 0, and at the lower end of said shell and receptacle 0, and across the bottom of the air space or chamber, the same are connected by strips at braces h. The ice-receptacle c is provided with an annular flange or rim, 1', on its top and vertical slots or openings k in the body thereof, that communicate with the air-chamber f, and depending from the bottom of the said receptacle is the tube 01, that is open at the top, communicating therewith, and at the bottom of said tube the same is closed by an inverted bearing, I, that connects with a conical pro- 5 jection'or pivot-bearing, m, placed in the bot tom of the can or vessel A.
At the top of the airchamber f, and through the rim 9, are perforations n, whereby air is admitted into said chamber, and can or vessel as well as the ice-receptacle 0, through the slots or openings k.
It will be observed from the above description, and by reference to the drawings, that the construction of my cooler is such that cold air passes out of the receptacle through the slots k and intermingles with the air admitted from the outside through the perforations n in the rim 9, and, descending into the can, circulates therein and keeps the milk or other liquid fresh and sweet. At the same time the cold waste-water from the melting ice is received into the tube, thus keeping the liquid cool that surrounds the same, and at the same time serving to hold the waste-water; and it will be further observed that the cooler is prevented from displacement by the connection at the lower end of the tube and of the shell at the mouth of the can or vessel A. Again, it will noticed that the lid of the cooler serves as a lid for the can or vessel, and when the same is removed carries the shell, receptacle, and tube therewith, as the three latter parts are connected .to one another, thus permitting the interior of the can to be reached without obstruction.
A cooling device constructed as herein described is simple in operation and cheap to manufacture.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a milkcooler, the combination, with the vessel A, having conical bearing an, of the shell I), having perforations n, receptacle 0, having slots 70, and depending tube (1, provided with the inverted closed bottom Z, adapted to rest upon the said conical bearing m, an air-chamber, f, being thus formed between the outer shell, I), and receptacle 0, by the latter being smaller in diameter than said shell, the whole operat ing as described and shown, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JEREMIAH DELINE. Witnesses:
