BLOUSEI-SHIRT WITH REMOVABLE CROTCH PANTY BOTTOM Filed March 17, 1955 INVENTOR.

MAYER .0 5 firm/v5) ELAYNE BLOUSE-SHIRT WITH REMOVABLE CROT CH PANTY BOTTOM Elayne Mayer, New York, N. Y.

Application March 17, 1955, Serial No. 494,881

1 Claim. (Cl. 2-'77) This invention relates to garments for women and children and, more particularly, has reference to a garment which can be formed as a shirt, blouse, or other outer garment for the upper part of the body, which garment is equipped, at its lower end, with a panty bottom having a removable crotch element.

One important object of the present invention is to provide an improved garment of the character referred to which, when the crotch element is in place, will cause the front and back portions of the garment to be firmly held down, so that when the garment is worn with slacks, skirts, or the like, there will be no tendency on the part thereof to ride upwardly.

Another object of importance is to so design the garment as to facilitate the removal or attachment of the crotch element, thus to permit said crotch element to be Washed or replaced separately from the garment itself.

Still another object is to provide a garment as stated in which the crotch element will be so shaped at its opposite ends, and the garment at front and back will have complementarily shaped edge portions, as to particularly insure that the crotch element will not be pulled out of shape at any location widthwise thereof, and thereby act as a suitable undergarment.

Yet another object of importance is to so form the panty bottom of the garment as to cause the crotch element, when the same is attached, to cooperate in forming, with the bottom edge of the garment body proper, leg-receiving openings at opposite sides of the crotch element.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a garment formed according to the present invention, as it appears when worn.

Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of the garment per se.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged front elevational view of the lower portion of the garment.

Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 3.

Fig. 5 is a still further enlarged, fragmentary, exploded perspective view showing the lower portion of the garment and the crotch element, parts being broken away.

The reference numeral has been applied generally in the several figures of the drawings to a garment formed according to the present invention, having a panty bottom and a removable crotch element 11. The garment, in the illustrated example, is a blouse, having a button-up fiy front 12 terminating at its lower end above the lower end of the garment. It will be understood, in this connection, that the upper portion of the garment can be of any desired type, and the garment can be formed as a blouse, shirt, sweater, or any other outer garment.

As illustrated in Fig. 3, at its lower end the garment has nited States Patent 0 Patented Apr. .23, 1957 ice an open bottom, provided with depending portions at the front and back of the garment medially between the opposite sides thereof cooperating to define leg-receiving recesses 14.

As shown in Fig. 5, the depending, midwidth portions of the front and back of the garment body have recesses 16, 18 of the shape of shallow, inverted Vs, and from opposite ends of the respective recesses extend hems 20, which can be of elasticized material, said hems extending about the leg-receiving recesses.

Secured to the lower end of the garment body, and spaced uniformly along the respective V-shaped recesses 15, 18, are buttons 22. Five buttons are provided in the illustrated example adjacent each recess, with one button at the apex of the recess, other buttons at opposite ends of the recess, and the remaining buttons between the first and second-named buttons.

The removable crotch element is formed with a body portion 24 which can be of a stretchable fabric and preferably is formed of a fabric of this type. The body portion 24 is widest at its opposite ends, and is progressively reduced in width from each end toward its midlength point. The relatively wide ends of the body portion 24 are provided with V -shaped end edges 26, 28, and spaced along said end edges 26, 28, are buttonholes 3t Preferably, the buttonholes, which correspond in number and spacing to the buttons 22, are arranged with two transversely extending buttonholes at the opposite ends of the series of buttonholes, the remaining buttonholes being disposed longitudinally of the body portion 24.

In use of the garment, after the garment has been put on, the crotch element is applied. It will be understood, of course, that the crotch element can be applied before garment is put on or can be buttoned to the back portion of the garment before the garment is put on, after which the front portion of the crotch element is secured to the edge portion of recess 16. The crotch element can be swiftly unbuttoned whenever necessary, of course, but while buttoned, serves to hold down the blouse, shirt, or similar garment, so as to provide a neat appearance and also acts as a suitable undergarment.

Since the crotch element is pulled resiliently to a substantially taut condition, it lies flat, so as to represent no undesirable projection when a skirt, pair of slacks, r the like is worn. Still further, the crotch element is adapted to protectively cover a sanitary napkin or the like during the menstrual period, to prevent soilage of outer garments, it being appreciated that the crotch element can be swiftly removed for washing, and can be replaced without difficulty whenever desired.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent A garment comprising a blouse-like form-fitting body having an open lower end; and a crotch element detachably connected at its ends to said body at the front and back thereof respectively and extending transversely of said lower end to define leg-receiving openings at opposite sides of the element, the body being formed, medially between the opposite sides thereof, with depending converging portions on the front and back of the body, the crotch element being connected at its ends to said portions, each of said portions having a shallow recess of obtuse angular shape, the associated end of the crotch element extending into said recess, each depending portion having a series of uniformly spaced buttons disposed along the edge of the angular-shaped recess thereof, said body having, at its lower end, elasticized hems connected at their opposite ends to each of said depending portions, at the ends of the angular-shaped recesses of the depending portions, the buttons at the opposite ends of each series being carried by the ends of said hems, for tensioning of the hems about the leg when the crotch element is connected between the buttons of each series, the crotch element being formed as a fabric body Widest at its ends and gradually tapering in Width toward its midlength part, said crotch element body being of an elastic material, each end of the crotch element being of angular-shape to complement the angular-shaped recesses, and being formed with a series of buttonholes to receive the buttons of the garment body, the buttonholes that are to receive the buttons of the hems being extended transversely of the crotch element body, the remaining buttonholes being extended longitudinally of the crotch element body.
