3 Claims. (Cl. 232-4) This invention relates to a toy coin bank and more particularly to a toy coin bank for attracting persons to the bank and providing a locked drawer forremoving the coins or currency from the bank when and as desired.

It is a principal object of this invention to provide a toy coin bank of the kind to be more particularly described hereinafter which may be formed to simulate a television set having a locked drawer for removal when .it is desired to remove the currency from the bank.

It is another object of this invention to provide a toy bank of this kind having a drawer slidable therein for removing currency from the bank and a picture slidable in the front of the bank which may be slidably removed from the bank and another picture slid on the bank in its place after the drawer has been slid open.

It is a further object of this invention to provide a toy bank ofthis kind having a hollow .body open at the bottom and a drawer slidable in thebody for closing the bottom of the body to collect currency inserted in the body, the body and bottom of the bank coacting to form a separable frame for a picture removable carried by the bank.

.It is yet a further object of this invention to provide a toy bankof this kind which may be formed at a low cost of several different kinds of material such as plastic, plywood, sheet metal or any other selected material which may be readily fabricated to the'desired configuration.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter described and the novel features thereof defined in the appended claims.

Referring more specifically to the drawings, the numeral designates generally a coin bank which is formed in a manner to be attractive to the user of the bank and the bank may contain coins or paper currency therein. The bank is provided with a picture in a picture frame on the front thereof to represent the front part of a television set in which the picture of a star may be placed and removed when and desired.

The bank 10 is formed with a sectional body 11 having an upper body section 12 and a lower body section or drawer 13 slidably secured to the upper body section wherein the lower body section, or drawer, may be removed from the bank to remove the currency collected in the bank.

2 15 secured adjacent .the opposite edges of the top wall and a rear wall 16 secured at its upper end to the lower side of the top wall 14 between the side walls.15 and secured at its opposite side edges to the side walls 15.

The lower body section 13 is provided with a bottom wall 17 extending horizontally thereacross which provides a bottom for the body 11 and has an upstanding fragmentary front wall 18 secured on the upper side thereof and to the forward edge of the fragmentary side walls 15' so that the fragmentary side walls 15' and fragmentary front wall 18 together with the bottom wall 17 complete the structure of the lower body section .13.

A tongue 19 of the side walls 15 and fragmentary side walls 15 slidably engages in a horizontal groove .20 ad jacent to the tongue .19 for slidably securing the lower body section and upper body section together. The tongue 19 and groove 20 are formed of a tongue and groove strip 21 secured adjacent the engaging edges of the side walls of both the upper and

lower body sections

12 and 13 respectively.

A handle 22 is secured to the center of the lower body section 13 to provide for the sliding movement of the lower body section relative to the upper body section when and as desired.

The upper and lower body sections of the bank may be locked together for collecting and accumulating the currency deposited within the bank and the lock 24 may be actuated by inserting a key into the key slot 23 of the handle 22 for locking the two vbody sections together or unlocking them when it is desired to remove the currency from the bank.

The lock 24 is provided withalock housing 25 secured within the bank 10 by a screw .27 engaging through a flange 26 of the lockhousing. A .lockbolt 28 is slidable within the lock housing 25 for engaging with the rear side of thefront wall 18 of the upper body section.

A picture frame 29 is carried by both of the

body sections

12 and 13 having an upper horizontal frame bar 30 secured transversely of the forward side of the .front wall 28 with depending vertical side frame bars 31 at the opposite ends thereofand a lower horizontal frame bar 32 carried by the lower body section 13. At the corner of the lower end of the vertical frame bars 31 and lower horizontal frame bar 32 a mitre joint 33 is provided for smoothly connecting together the picture frame 29 when the upper and lower body sections are slid and locked together in the closed position of the bank 10.

A picture 34, of any suitable and desirable view may be slid within the picture frame 29 which is spaced a slight bit outwardly from the front wall of the body 11 to provide a slot 35 therein for receiving the picture and the picture 34 may be removed from the picture frame 29 after the

body sections

12 and 13 are separated for opening the slot 35 at the lower end of the side vertical frame bars 31 on the upper body section. At this time the picture 34 may be removed from the picture frame 29 and a new picture slid in its place and the picture frame 29 will be closed and completed when the lower body section 13 is slid into its engagement with the upper body section and locked in its place by the lock 24.

A coin slot 36 is provided in the top wall 14 of the body 11 through which coins may be deposited and a bore 37 is formed in the top wall 14 adjacent one end of the coin slot 36 through which the paper currency may be inserted within the bank 10.

When the bank 10 is desired to be opened, a key, not shown in the drawings, is inserted within the key slot 23 of the handle 22 to slide the locking bolt 28 downwardly out of engagement with the rear side of the front wall section may be slid outwardly, by way of the tongue and groove connections between the upper and lower body sections, to remove the lower body section and also remove the currency from the bank.

Upon sliding the lower body section again inwardly of the upper body section the bank is closed and the lock bolt 28 may be moved to its locking position in engagement with the inner surface of the upper body section to close and lock the bank 10.

While the specific details of one embodiment of this invention have been herein shown and described, the invention is not confined thereto as changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A novel toy currency bank of the kind described comprising a body open at the bottom thereof including a top wall, side walls depending from said top wall, front and rear walls depending from said top wall and connected at their side edges to said side walls, a transverse groove on the lower edge of each of said side walls extending across the width thereof, said top wall having openings through which currency may be freely passed upon depositing currency into said bank, a drawer including a bottom wall, fragmentary upstanding side walls secured at their respective lower edges thereof to said bottom wall, a fragmentary upstanding front wall secured at the lower edge thereof to said bottom wall and secured at the opposite side edges thereof to the forward edges of said fragmentary side walls, an inwardly extending tongue on the upper edge of said fragmentary side walls slidably extensible in said grooves of said side walls of said body, portions of a grooved picture frame on said front wall of said body and open at the bottom edge thereof, a portion of the grooved picture frame carried by said fragmentary front wallof said drawer for closing said picture frame upon sliding of said drawer into said body, an outwardly extending handle fixed on said fragmentary front wall of said drawer, a key lock in said handle including a sliding locking bolt positioned on the rear surface of said fragmentary front wall of said drawer engageable with the rear side of said front wall of said body for lockingly securing said drawer within said body releasably enclosing said drawer in said body.

2. An improved toy bank of the kind described comprising a sectional body having an upper body section with a top wall, side walls depending from said top wall, a rear wall depending from said top wall and secured to the side walls, a fragmentary front wall depending from said top wall and secured to said side walls in spaced relation to said rear wall, a lower body section including a bottom wall, upstanding fragmentary side walls secured at the lower edges thereof to said bottom wall, a fragmentary upstanding front wall secured to said bottom wall and said fragmentary upstanding side walls, a lock carried by said lower body section and engaging said upper body section for lockingly securing said upper and lower body sections together, said top wall being provided with openings through which currency may be passed into said toy bank, a sectional picture frame on said body comprising a portion of a grooved picture frame on said upper body section and another portion of said sectional grooved picture frame on said lower body section for completing said sectional picture frame when said lower bank body section is moved to body forming position with said upper body section and slidable guide means on said side walls of said body sections for sliding said body sections relative to each other and a handle on one of said body sections.

3. A toy bank of the kind described comprising a hollow sectional body including a hollow upper body section and a hollow lower body section, tongue and groove fastening means on said body sections detachably securing said body sections together, a key lock carried by one of said body sections engageable with the other of said sections for lockingly securing said sections together, a portion of a picture frame carried by one of said sections, a related portion of a picture frame carried by the other of said sections cooperating with said first mentioned portion of a picture frame Within which a picture is insertable in the open separated position of the body sections to be contained in the closed relation of said body sections.
