MUSCULAR SUPPORT Filed May 1l, 1955 INVENTR Patented 2,769,185 l MUSCULAR'SUiPORT William F. Biederman, Philadelphia, Pa.
Application May 11, 1953, Serial No. 354,249
2 Claims. (Cl. 5-338) The present invention relates to a support for the muscular structure of the human body, particularly in sitting position, especially at the crotch and primarily intended for use by male humans.
A purpose of the invention is to provide muscular support of the normal sitting parts of human beings in the crotch against fatigue, discomfort and muscular aches and pains, particularly during extended periods of sitting, especially in travel, and during attendance at meetings and the like.
A further purpose is to provide support especially for the anus and the prostate gland.
A further purpose is to provide a relatively wide and high dome-like structure at the front, a relatively narrow ridge at the center and a still narrower curved nose at the back.
A further purpose is to provide two spaced saddles first rising abruptly upwardly, and then gradually upwardly curving on the dome, with a slightly recessed abruptly upwardly curving portion between the saddles joining a slightly recessed plateau at the top, with convexly abruptly descending portions on both sides of the saddles.
A further purpose is to run the saddles together at the middle to form a central ridge which is curved at the top and concavely depressed on both sides, the concavely depressed portions joining the convexly descending portions of the dome at the rear and the convexly descending portions ofthe nose at the front.
Further purposes appear in the specification and in the claims.
In the drawings I havechosen to illustrate one only of the numerous embodiments in which my invention may appear, selecting the forms shown from the standpoints of convenience in illustration, satisfactory operation and clear demonstration of the principles involved.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the muscular support of the invention.
Figure 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section on' `long periods of sitting at lectures, meetings and the like.
This is due in part to inadequate support of the structure at the middle and rear of the crotch in the sitting position, and is likely to cause discomfort and fatigue.
The present invention is designed toprovide support in the crotch, especially for men.
Referring to the drawings, the device of the invention is suitably an integral metallic support which can conveniently be a sheet metal stamping or light metal alloy l 22 adapted to'rest on a chair or the like.
The device is generally triangular in top plan view, and consistsof a relatively wide and high dome portion 23 toward the front, 1an intermediate ridge portion 24 and a nose portion 25 Ytoward the rear of the body. Considering the outer contour of Figure l, the dome portion comprises a central recess 26 at thev large end, filleted side portions 27 extending out to amaximum width in the section of Figure 6,A converging to slightly inwardly curving longitudinal side portions 28 and to a curved nose 30 toward the rear of generally convex form merging with the side portions 28.
The forward dome portion comprises two saddles 31 which extend from the opposite ends of the recessed portion 26, rst extending up abruptly at 32 and then gradually curving across at 33 to form the highest area of the structure. In between the two saddles 31 there is an abruptly upwardly rising slightly recessed portion 34 at the end and then a relatively at slightly recessed plateau portion 35. On both sides the saddles descend in convex curves 36. The saddles join at 37 terminating the plateau 35, at a point below the saddle peak as shown in Figure 3 and create a ridge 38 which is curved at the top in cross section in Figure 5 and on either side has concave descending depressed portions 40 which rise at the end to join the convex curves of the sides of the dome and nose respectively.
The nose 25 is desirably a continuous slightly convex curve 41 extending all around.
In the preferred embodiment the support is desirably of about eight inches length and about four inches maximum width, although it will be understood that smaller and larger sizes may be produced to meet variations in personal dimensions. In use the device is placed under the crotch in the sitting posture as shown in Figure 3, where the user faces to the right and the portion 42. of the body immediately adjoining the crotch is supported on 'the muscular support, the portion of the body near the front resting on the dome 33, the intermediate portion on the ridge 24 and the rearward portion" resting on the nose 25.
It is accordingly possible to endure extended periods of sitting with reduced discomfort even when vehicle motion is present.
In View of my invention and disclosure variations and modifications to meet individual whim or particular need will doubtless become evident to others skilledin the art, to obtain all or part of the benefits of my invention without copying the structure shown, and I, therefore, claim all such insofar as they fall within the reasonable spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A rigid muscular support having a base, a relatively wide and high domek at one end, a relatively narrow ridge extending longitudinally in the middle and a nose portion descending in a curve rearwardly and Yat the two sides,
the dome comprising a mid-portion which extends abruptly upwardly at the end remote from the nose portion, the mid-portion then rising Ygradually from the front in two saddles and the mid-'portion having a depressed portion in between the saddles, and the dome sloping off abruptly transversely at the sides on both sides of the saddles `in convex curves, the ridge portion being convexlycurved at the top, lower than the dome and descending on both sides in concave curve portions, the ridge portions rising at the sides to the nose portion.
2. A rigid muscular support having a length of approximately eight inches and a maximum width of approximately four inches, wide and high at one end and narrow toward the other' end, having a flat base, having at the wide end a dome, there being saddles which abruptly upwardly slope from the one end and converge on the v at the two sides in a convexly curved nose, the ridge be- 10 ing convexly curved at the top and concavely curving off on both sides of the ridge, the concave curved off portions on both sides of the ridge curving up to the convex curved portions at the dome and at the nose.
