Description

(No Model.) W. S. WARD.
ORE GONGENTRATOR. No. 276,738. Patented May 1; 1883.
M'ihesses 11111611101" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAMS. WARD, OF LEADVILLE, COLORADO.
O'RE-CONCENTRATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,738, dated May 1,1883.
Application filed February 26, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it m (13 concern Be it known that I, W. S. WARD, of Leadville, county of Lake, and State of Colorado,
haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Ore-Concentrators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description,
reference being bad to the accom panyin g drawiug, forming a. part of this specification.
' as to force itself through the concentrator by hydrostatic pressure or by any of the usual methods of producing a forced injection; and the invention consists, first, in an ore-concentrating apparatus, the combination of a suitable vessel, an interior vessel or funnel, an inlet tube or conduit connected with the outer vessel near its bottom, and exit port or ports for drawing ofl'the concentrations from the apparatus; second, thecom bination, with the vessel and funnels, of deflectors to throw the pulp toward the center of the vessel, and in further details of construction which will be particularly pointed out in the claims. L
In the drawing, which is a section of an oreconcentrator made accordingto my invention, A represents a vessel of cylindrical or other form, made of. sheet or plate iron, wood, or other suitable material. Connected with this vessel is a feed-pipe or conduit, B, the junction being shown at B. A hopper, B", should be attached to or supported above the conduit B. Inside the vessel I secure and sup port by brackets what I call a funnel, O. The lower end of this funnel leads through the bottom of the vessel and ends in a pipe, 0, from-which the concentrated ore may be drawn. This pipe or nozzle may be provided with a cook or other device to regulate the flow or to out it off altogether. The lowerend of the vessel is also provided with an exit, A, as shown, similar to O, for taking off ore or for flushing and cleaning, &c. Any number of additional funnels, as I), may be provided in ad- 5 gravity. D has its exit-orifice at D, as shown.
Guards or deflectors e c are placedjust above the top of the funnels O D, so as to deflect both the upward and downward currents toward the center of the vessel, and thereby avoid carrying the heavy metallic portions of the pulp up and out oftheoverflow-openingsffi By the introduction of the pulp at the bottom and forcingit up between the funnels and the walls of the vessel, and by having the deflectors e e, a capacity is given to an apparatus of given dimensions beyond anythingkuown to me. Moreover, the facility of operating and of drawing 0d the settlings or concentrations, either constantly or at intervals, largely augments the working capacity of this apparatus.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. The combination of an exterior vessel, an interior funnel, an inlet-conduit connected with the outer vessel outside and near its bottom, h
and an exit-port from the funnel, as specified.
2. The combination of an exterior vessel, an interior funnel, an inlet-conduit connected with the outer vessel outside and near its bottom, and exit-ports from each compartment of the apparatus.
3. The combination, in an ore-concentrator, of the vessel, tunnels, and deflectors, as herein set forth.
4. The combination of the vessel, funnels, deflectors, and conduit or supply-pipe, as described.
