This invention relates to fountain syringes and proposes certain improvements in our co-pending applications, Serial No. 384,108 filed October 5, 1953, now Patent No. 2,705,495, for Fountain Syringe and Serial No. 396,537 filed December 7, 1953, for Fountain Syringe.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a fountain syringe for vaginal and rectal use which may be readily mounted over a conventional toilet seat and which permits the user to obtain an internal bath with a minimum of inconvenience and which includes novel means for operating and adjusting the syringe to the comfort ,of the user.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a fountain syringe of the above type which contains no exposed parts and which is entirely sanitary and which is retained in operative position bymeans of the users weight upon the toilet seat. 1
Other objects of the invention are to provide a fountain syringe bearing the above objects in mind which is ofv simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, is easy to use and eflicient in operation.
For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference maybe had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a fountain syringe adapted for vaginal use and shown mounted upon a toilet;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevational view of the device shown partly in section;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view similar to Fig. 2, but showing the head portion thereof in extended position;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modified form of the present invention adapted for rectal use;
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view shown partly in elevation taken through the mounting post and showing the manner in which the metal rim is forced down onto the toilet bowl under the users weight;
Fig. 6 is an enlarged view similar to Fig. 4 shown partly in section; and
Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional view taken along the line 7-7 of Fig. 6.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, there is shown in Figs. 1 through 3 a fountain syringe embodying the features of the present invention and adapted for vaginal use and including a mounting post 10, provided at its upper end with a resilient cap 11 adapted to be engaged by the undersurface of the conventional toilet seat 12 mounted on the toilet bowl 13 by means of the hinge 14.
The bottom of the post is integrally formed with an enlarged base portion 15 adapted to rest on the front portion of the bowl 13, the undersurface of the base 15 being concave as at 16 and fixedly mounting a suction cup 17. The post 10 is integrally formed with a tubular portion extending therethrough and including an inlet 18 integrally formed with a circular flange 19 and an outlet 26 which curves downwardly at 21 and then up- 2 wardly as at 22. The outlet 22 being similarly formed with a circular flange 23.
An elongated wire tube 24 is slidably disposed within the tubular portion 18, 20, 21, 22 and extends outwardly therefrom at both ends, a waterproof flexible tubing of rubber or other suitable material 25 passing through the wire tubing 24 and extending outwardly from opposite ends of the latter. A head 26 is integrally formed with a hollow sleeve 27 which communicates with a central longitudinal bore 28, the end of spring wire 24 being secured within the sleeve 27 with the Waterproof tubing 25 extending partially through the bore 28 (Fig. 2). A spring 29 sleeves the wire tube 24 intermediate a'flange 30 integrally formed in the head 26-and the flange 23 and is in turn sleeved by a resilient cover 31 connected at opposite ends to the flanges 23, 30. The spring 29 is connected at one end to the head 26 and at the other end to the flange 23 and serves to hold up the cover 31.
An adapter nipple 49 is integrally'formed with a sleeve 32 which has secured therewithin one end of the wire tube 24, the sleeve 32 being integrally formed with a circular flange 33. The adapter 49 is provided with a longitudinal bore 34 which communicates with the interior of sleeve 32 and which receives therethrough the waterproof tube 25. A spring 35 sleeves the wire tubing 24 intermediate the flanges 19 and 33 and serves to hold up flexible covering 36 surrounding the spring 35 and being secured at opposite ends to the flanges 19, 33. The adapter 49 is connected to suitable source of syringe water by means of the flexible tubing 37.
In operation, the post 10 'is placed intermediate the seat 12 and the bowl 13 with the suction cup 17 engaging the latter and is'retained in this position by the users weight upon the seat 12, 'as will be obvious. It will be noted that the head member 26 is normally disposed be low the seat 12 when in the retracted position. The device is extended to the operative position of Fig. 3 by moving the adapter 49 towards the post 10, this position being shown in phantomin Fig. l, whereupon the syringe fluid coursing through flexible tubing 37 passes through the waterproof tubing 25 and out of the head member 2e.
Referring now particularlyto Figs. 4 through 7, there is shown a modified form of the present invention adapted for rectal use wherein the. post 10 is integrally formed with a tubular portion passing therethrough and including an inlet 38 integrally formed at its outer end with an enlarged portion 39, the outer face of the enlarged portion 39 being integrally formed with the spaced flanges 40. The post 10 is also formed with a downwardly extending outlet tubing 41 which is bent upwardly as at 42 and is integrally formed at its upper end with an enlarged portion 43 integrally formed on its outer face with the longitudinally spaced flanges 44. In this form of the invention the opposite ends of the flexible elastic covering 31 are secured to the flange 30 of head member 26 and intermediate the longitudinally spaced flanges 44. An adapter 45' is formed with an annular ridge 46 which receives therewithin one end of the flexible elastic covering 36 while the other end thereof is secured intermediate the longitudinally spaced flanges 40. The adapter 45 is provided with a longitudinal bore 47 which receives partially therethrough the waterproof tubing 25, the nipple being provided with an enlarged bore 48 which therewithin receives the end of the wire tube 24.
In other respects the form of the invention shown in Figs. 4 through 7 is the same as that shown in Figs. 1 through 3, and like reference numerals identify like parts throughout the several views. Due to the shape of the tubular portion 41, 42, the device is designed for rectal use and it will be noted that the head member 26 is again disposed when in retracted position below the seat 12. In order to raise the head member 26 to the operative 3 position shown .in phantom in Fig. 4, then it is only necessary to move the adapter 45 towards the post 10, the syringe fluid coursing through tubing 37 being delivered through the head member. 26 by means of the waterproof tubing 25.
While various changes may bemade in thedetailconstruction,:it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appendedaclaims. 7
Having thus settorth :and disclosed the nature of our invention, what is claimed is:
l. A fountain syringe comprising a post member, means for mounting said post member intermediate the seat and bowl of .a toilet, an interconnected inlet and outlet on said post, an elongated wire tubing extending through said inlet a d outlet, a waterproof tubing within said wire tube and extendingbeyond the ends thereof, a head memher having a longitudinal bore therethrough mounted on one end of said waterproof tubing, an adapter mounted on the other end of said waterproof tubing, said wire tubing being slidable through said inlet andoutlet, spring means sleeving said wire tubing intermediate said head member and said outlet member adapted to hold up flexible covering and spring means sleeving saidwire tubing intermediate said inlet and said adapter, adapted to hold up flexible covering.
2. A fountain syringe according to claim 1, said means for mounting said post member intermediate the seat and bowl of a toilet comprising an enlarged concave base at the bottom of said post member, a suction cup mounted within said concave base, and arubber cap at the top of said base. l
3. A syringe according to claim 2, said outlet extending downwardly and then upwardly whereby -to normally position said head member within the seat below the top thereof when said head member is in a retracted position.
4. A fountain syringe according to claim 3, said first spring means comprising a flange at the end of said outlet, a complementary flange formed on said head member, one end of said spring means being connected to said outlet flange and the other to said head member flange and adapted to hold up a flexible resilient covering sleeviug said spring means with the opposite ends thereof connected to said head member flange and said outlet flange.

A fountain syringe according to claim 4, said second spring means comprising a first flange formed on said inlet, a second flange formed on said adapter, said spring means abutting said adapter flange at one end and said inlet flange at the other end, said adapter having a longitudinal bore receiving said waterproof tubing therethrough and an enlarged bore receiving one end of said wire tubing in fixed engagement therewith, and a flexible resilient covering sleeving said second spring means and secured at opposite ends to said inlet flange and said adapter flange.

A fountain syringe comprising a post member, means for mounting said post member intermediate the seat and bowl of a toilet, an interconnected inlet and outlet on said post, an elongated wire tubing extending through said inlet and outlet, a waterproof tubing within said wire tube and extending beyond the endsthereof, a head member having a longitudinal bore therethrough mounted on one end of said waterproof tubing, an adapter mounted on the other end of said waterproof tubing, said wire tubing being slidable throughsaid inlet and outlet, said outlet tubing extending downwardly within the bowl and terminatingin a substantially vertical, upwardly extending portion integrally formed at its upper end with an enlarged portion, a pair of longitudinally spaced flanges formed on the outside of said enlarged portion, a flange formed in said head member, and aflexible, resilient cover secured at opposite ends to :said longitudinally spaced flanges and said head member flange covering said wire tube.
7.
