SAFETY RAZOR KIT Filed March 50, 1955 INVENTOR. JAMES M BOND.
WRN EY.
United States Patent SAFETY RAZOR KIT James M. Bond, Baltimore, Md. Application March 30, 1955, Serial No. 498,005
7 Claims. (Cl. 206-16) This invention relates to containers and more particularly to a receptacle for holding a safety razor, its blades and other incidental items suitable for shaving functions, as well as affording a sharpening apparatus in the device. It includes in its objects the provision of a new and improved kit to hold a set of safety razor requirements in a compact and convenient arrangement.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved razor container of light, and strong, structure, and at the same time economical to manufacture.
Another object of this invention is to provide a new and improved container for holding a razor, blades and blade sharpening device.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent as it is more fully set forth.
For a better understanding of the invention and the objects thereof reference is made to the accompanying drawings, wherein a preferred form is indicated, while the following description outlines its features and details of construction, and the scope of the invention is compre hended in the claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a safety razor kit embodying this invention;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the kit shown in Figure l, with the lid in closed position;
Figure 3 is a view in perspective of a modified form of the invention; and
Figure 4 is a front elevation of Figure 3.
Similar reference numerals refer to throughout the drawings.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a kit consists of top plate 10, which is preferably flat and smooth. An arcuate wall 11 of convex contour is bent from the lateral edges of the plate to form a segmental form of chamber 12, which is curved enough to permit the movement of a safety razor blade across it longitudinally and transversely. When suitable abrasive material 13 is attached to its concavesurface, it can be employed to sharpen the cutting edges of the blade. The chamber 12 is separated by partitions 14 extended radially between the plate 10 and wall 11 throughout the length of the kit. The end sub-chambers or compartments 15 formed serve to contain selected toilet articles used for shaving. The quasitriangular cross-section of the sub-chambers or compartments are preferably fitted with boxes 16 holding these articles snugly, so the kit will have them always available. The boxes 16 are readily pushed out from either end and the articles within them removed and used to suit the owner. The boxes can be returned to the kit afterwards.
The top plate 10 is depressed in a selected portion of its area to form a longitudinal groove 17 sized to receive and contain the handle of a safety razor. This groove is topped by a larger groove 18 spread out in T-form at one end of it, and adapted to receive and hold the head with blade of the razor. The grooves are not deep enough to encompass more than half of the razor. This permits the same parts the latter to be readily picked up when desired. The blades for the razor are held in a corral of rectangular form fenced in perpendicularly on top of the plate 10. Its fences 19 are high enough to hold several blades at a time accessible as needed for placement in the razor head. A gateway 20 is left in the front fence of the corral to permit easy access to the blades within. At the rear of the plate 10, a cover 21 is spring hinged and is made with its edges formed with walls deep enough to cover the plate 10, the corral and a safety razor located in the grooves 17 and 18. It is optional whether the cover is provided with a catch to hold it down or not. The short legs 23 are mounted on the exterior of the arcuate wall 11 to keep the kit upright when resting on a flat surface and assists the hand in holding it when a blade is sharpened. In the modified form shown in Figures 3 and 4, the general structure is similar to the embodiment indicated in Figures 1 and 2, but instead of the large cover 21, a small lid 24 is provided and spring hinged to the corral fence. This lid 24 covers the blades stored in the corral. The other features incorporated in the first embodiment are included in this modification, such as for. sharpening the blades and storing of the articles in the compartments.
The material of which the device is made can be of metal, glass or plastic, depending on which is commercially available, feasible and within the index of cost adapted. By reason of simple structure and avoidance of cubical box-like formation, the number of walls is limited without impairing its strength, while at the same time providing a sharpening surface accessible for use yet protected against damage. The exterior arcuate form of the device enables it to be held conveniently in one hand while the fingers of the other hand manipulate and press down on a blade to be sharpened inside its chamber 12. The device is termed a kit arbitrarily, and refers to the containing parts of the structure and not necessarily including its contents, since the latter are not part of the invention.
While two forms of the invention have been illustrated in this application, it is not desired to limit it to such forms as it is appreciated that other structures could be designed that would employ the same principles and come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
