DROP-LETTER BOX.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 27,466, dated March 13, 1860.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN NORTH, of Middletown, county of Middlesex, in the State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Drop-Letter Box for the Prevention of the Abstracting of Letters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in attaching to the aperture of a drop letter' box an inner lid which is closed on opening the outer lid so as tO prevent the abstractingl Of letters therefrom and I do hereby declare that the following is a full clear and exact description and Operation of the same reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specication in which- Figure l is a side elevation with the end removed to show the Operation more clearly. The outer lid (A) is connected by the link (c) to the lid (B) which are so hinged that on opening the outer lid the inner lid closing the aperture at the bottom the letters on being put into the aperture above which is of suiiicient size to receive a number of letters, the lid (A) on being dropped will Open the inner lid (B) depositing the letters in JOI-IN NORTH.
