UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE M. KERBY, OF BOLIVAR, TEXAS.
DRAFT-EQUALIZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 272,708, dated February 20, 1883. Application filed November 29, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. KERBY, of Bolivar, in the countyot' Benton and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful ImprovemeutsinThree-Horse Equalizers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawing, which l'ormsa partol' this specification, and which is a plan view of my improved draftequalizer.
My invention relates to three-horse equalizers; and it consists in the improved construction and combinati n of parts of the same, as
hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompani ing drawing, the letter A indicates part of the tongue of a wagon or agricultural machine, which is replaced by a short draw-bar where the equalizer is used on a plow or harrow or other implement without it tongue.
B is a lever, which is pivoted and has its fulcrum on the tongue in such a manner that one-third of its length is on one side ot'the fulcrum and two-thirds on the other. At the long end of the lever is hinged a cross-bar, O, which again is hinged to a lever, I), which is pivoted in one end to the tongue, while a single-tree, E, is fastened to the other end at the same distance from the tongue as the end of lever B, where the cross-bar is hinged.
A lever, F, is pivoted at one end to the tongue between the two levers B and l), and to the other end is a single-tree, Gr, fastened. In the center of this lever is pivoted a crossbar, H, to the outerend of which is fastened a single-tree, I, while its other end is hinged to the short end of lever B.
By this arrangement of the parts of the equalizer the single-trees will always maintain their relative positions.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim and desire [0 secure by Letters Patent of the United States In a draft-equalizer, the combination of the tongue or draIt-bar A. lever B, cross-bar U, lever D, cross-bar H, lever F, and the three single-trees E G I, all constructed and combined to operate substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim thel'oregoing as my own I have hereunto afi xed mysignature in presence of two witnes es.
' GEORGE M. KERRY.
