United States Patent The clip and comb hair trimmer of my device employs the conventional types of double edge safety-razor blades-having perforations through their longitudinal midcenters. Said safety-razor blades, held by said clip, are clamped on to either side of said comb, for hairtrimming, locking mechanism of said clip preventing two clamping parts of said clip from spreading open when occasional pressure is applied to said clip. Thus said clip and blade will not slip from their position on said comb until said clip is unlocked. That is the main object of my invention.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 shows my invention fully assembled. Fig. 2 shows a perspective of the clip of my invention minus said attachable handle, comb, and the locking mechanism; in this figure are also revealed the parts contained within said clip of my invention. Fig. 3 shows a face view of the comb incorporated in my invention. Fig. 4 shows a side view of said lock ing mechanism of my invention. Fig. 5 is a side view of the knurled sleeve nut of said locking mechanism. Fig. 6 is a face view of said sleeve nut. In Fig. 7' are presented the novel features of alternating, longer comb teeth of said comb of my invention. Fig. 8 shows a lower angle-section on the inside of an upper clamping part of said clip, indicating how said safety-razor blades are inserted and held in said clip. Fig. 9 shows the attachable handle of said clip and comb hair trimmer incorporated in my invention. Fig. 10 presents a sectional cross-cut of a locking plate incorporated in said locking mechanism of my invention. Fig. 11 shows the extending, threaded and wider end of a rod incorporated in said locking mechanism. Fig. 12 shows one of the two zigzag springs'incorporated in my invention, and also the rivet which fastens them within seats provided in said upper clamping part of said clip for that purpose. Fig. 13 shows the flange of said sleeve nut.
To describe the details of my invention for the con struction thereof and for the operation of same, in Fig. 2 can be seen the upper clamping part of clip 3, extending considerably longer than the bottom clamping part of clip 4; here, too, it shows that the bottom edge of said clamping part 4 is bent inward for efficient clamping tension at 34; 26 indicates the rod which holds said clip together in its assembly; 27 indicates the center section of a tension spring of said clip; 25 shows one of the two hinges of two levers mounted on said rod and positioned at the two sides of said spring, while 24, 24, indicate the extending levers between the two clamping parts of said clip. In Fig. 9 1 indicates the upper body section of said handle, 2, 2 indicate the fork-like tubular arms while 50, 50 indicate the openings where said two levers 24, 24 are received whereby said handle can oscillate conveniently between said two clamping parts of said clip. 22 indicates the wire stem of said tension spring while 23 indicates the indented notch which keeps said spring in place; 33, 33, indicate the flap-hooks extending inwardly, on straight angles, at the two inner sides of said upper clamping part, and as indicated in Fig. 8, serve to engage 2,726,441 Patented Dec. 13, 1955 end perforations 48 of a safety razor blade to keep said safety-razor blade from sliding down; Two zigzag tension springs are secured to said upper clamping part of said clip. Thus, first of all, we can plainly see in Fig. 12 the delineation and how said spring is made: 37-A indicates the center vertical section of said spring; 36 indicates the extending section of said spring bent on a straight angle and culminating in a loop 54, while the opposite extending end of said spring has a slanting bend from the vertical center section culminating in an upward curve 37. 55 shows the head of a rivet with 21 indicating the stem. Said two zigzag springs are embedded within and secured in two concaved seats provided in the upper clamping part of said clip for that purpose; the concavities of said seats are indicated by 35 on the inside of said upper clamping part in Fig. 2 while the relief of said seats on the upper side of said clamping part of said clip are indicated by a separate numeral 20, as shown in Fig. 1. Here, too, are shown the stem ends of said rivets, having been inserted through said loops of said'springs and riveted through the perforations provided in said upper sections of said casings; 19 indicates the notches in the lower section of said upper clamping part positioned in line with said extending curved ends of said zigzag springs where they are partly received as shown in Fig. 2. Said springs can be bent down slightly for increased clamping tension whenever needed, while said vertical center sections of said springs protruding from said concaved seats, as shown in Fig. 2, check the upward insertions of said safety-razor blades at the bottom edge of center perforations 49, as shown in Fig. 8. Said double edge safety-razor blades are flexible and are thus easily inserted and removed from the clip of my invention through their center perforations, regardless of the variations and the delineations of their center perfora-' tions. The sectional elements comprising said locking mechanism of said clip of my invention are presented first, in Fig. 11 where 53 shows the threaded, wider extension of said rod 26, while 13 indicates the head of said wider end and 42 shows the shoulder thus formed which serves as a rivet-head for said rod at this side of said clip; 11 in Figs. 1, 4, 5 and 6, shows the knurled sleeve nut which is screw mounted upon said threaded end 53 of said rod, said sleeve nut having a countersunk upper face 44, to receive said head of said rod 13 when said sleeve nut is screwed upward, said sleeve nut having a beveled bottom face 12, a short neck 43, and a flange 8. In Fig. 10 is shown a section of said locking plate 9, which is mounted about said neck of said sleeve nut in its assembly and held by said flange, said locking plate having a grooved upper face fitting said beveled face of said sleeve nut 11, while 52, shows part of a hole for mounting said locking plate about said neck of said sleeve nut, said locking plate also having three prongs extending and triangularly positioned at the bottom side, a side view of which is had in Fig. 4. Here 10 indicates the two longer prongs while 7 indicates the shorter, wider and wedge shaped prong. In Fig. 2 28 indicates the pierced flaps of the hinge section on this side of said clip; here it shows said rod severed from the locking mechanism normally extending at this side of the clip; 31 and 32 indicate the rounded corners of said hinge section, while 29 and 30 indicate the cut-outs provided in the extending flaps of said hinge section. Thus said locking mechanism in its assembly on that side of said clip, as shown in Fig. 1, will lock and unlock said clip when said sleeve nut is turned to the right or to the left, for in so doing said locking plate is lowered or raised and thereby said wedge shaped prong wedges in or out between said space provided by said cut-outs of said flaps of said hinge section of said clip, while said two longer prongs of said locking plate are slidingly positioned in said rounded corners of said hinge of said clip and thus prevent said locking plate from swerving from its position as it is principally held and moved by said knurled sleeve nut of said locking mechanism. In Fig. 3 where is presented a face view of said comb incorporated in my'invention, 14 indicates the straight ridge of the comb body, 38, 38 indicate slot ends terminating on a straight line with said ridge of said comb while 39, 39 indicate the slot ends of guard teeth 15, forming the sides of said comb; 17, 17 indicate the narrow and wider indicating lines incised in the two lower ends of said guard teeth which serve to facilitate the equal spacing of said clip and blade clamped to said comb, when the former are being changed from the one side of said comb to the other; 40, 40 indicate the shorter, alternating teeth which are conventionally formed; 18, 18 indicate the alternating longer teeth while 47, 47 indicate the end sections of said teeth. In Fig. 7 47 indicates the novel delineation and the forming of said end sections of said longer, alternating teeth of said comb; here said end sections are shown to be a tapering continuation of said upper and conventionally formed sections of said longer teeth, said end sections, however, being slender and extending horizontally flat. These latter features afford and provide, with the cutting edge of said safety-razor blades resting upon them, close contact with said hair throughout the extending slender, and horizontally flat sections of said longer teeth by simply keeping said comb teeth inflected close to said scalp, yet, the operator needs only to inflect said comb upward for longer, or somewhat longer hair trimming; this convenience of the adaptability of said combination clip and comb hair trimmer of my invention is especially helpful in the finishing touches of hair trimming. 46 in Fig. 7 indicates where said longer tooth had been severed from the upper body of said comb of my invention.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. In a locking tension clip and comb combination hair trimmer with attachable handle; a clip comprising upper and lower clamping parts, said upper clamping part of said clip having two small flap-hooks extending at straight angles on its inward, blade receiving side, said flap-hooks, positioned opposite each other at the two ends of said clamping part, serving to engage the two end perforations of any and all longitudinally and centrally perforated double edge safety-razor blades and thus keep said blades from sliding down, or out from said clip where they had been inserted.
2. In a locking tension clip and comb combination hair trimmer with an attachable handle; a clip comprising upper and lower clamping parts, said upper clamping part of said clip incorporating two zigzag fashioned blade clamping springs, positioned and fastened in two concaved seats formed and provided in said lower section of said upper clamping part of said clip; said springs comprising a vertical middle section having two oppositely bent and extending wire stem-ends, one stem-end being straight and culminating in a round loop which is fastened within said concaved seat by means of a rivet through a perforation provided in the upper part of said seat, whereby said vertical center section of said spring is partly embedded in said seat and partly extended above said seat; said second and oppositely extending wire stem-end being additionally bent downward and having its end culminating in an upward curve; said upper clamping part of said clip also having two, inwardly extending, notches in line with said curved ends of said springs where they are partly received, said notches also providing room for said extending, curved spring ends to be bent downward for increased blade clamping tension whenever needed, While said vertically extending middle section of said springs also serves to check the upward advance of said blades at their longitudinal bottom edges of said central perforations when inserted into said clip:
3. A locking tension clip and comb combination hair trimmer and attachable handle having a clip comprising two clamping parts pivotally mounted on a rod, and incorporating a locking mechanism extending adjacently at the outer side of said clip; said locking mechanism comprising and incorporating the extending, wider and threaded end of said rod which holds said clip together in its assembly, a knurled sleeve nut mounted upon said wider and threaded end of said rod; said sleeve nut having an upper countersunk face, a beveled bottom face, a short, straight neck, and a flange; said locking mechanism also including, a locking plate having a hole in its center and mounted upon said neck of said sleeve nut, and held there by said flange in said sleeve nut assembly; said locking plate having a grooved upper face and three prongs extending from its bottom face and triangularly positioned; two prongs of said locking plate being considerably longer and the third prong being shorter, wider and wedge shaped, said latter wedging in or out of a cut-out space provided between hinge flaps of the two clamping parts of said clip, as said sleeve nut is screwed down or up, and thus locking or unlocking said clip of my invention by forcing down or raising up said locking plate, said latter also being kept from swerving by said two longer prongs which are slidingly and snugly positioned in two rounded corners of said hinge section of said clip in the assembly of said locking mechanism and said clip.
4. In a locking tension clip and comb combination hair trimmer and attachable handle, incorporating a comb adapted for hair trimming; said comb having an upper perfectly straight ridge body, two side guard teeth which are incised at their lower, tapering ends with narrow and wider indicating lines; said comb, additionally, having its teeth between said guard teeth uniformly alternating into longer and shorter teeth, said shorter teeth being conventionally formed, and said longer teeth being fashioned into slender, horizontally flat end sections which are adapted for efficient hair trimming.
5. A locking tension clip and comb combination hair trimmer and attachable handle; said clip comprising two clamping parts, the upper part extending considerably longer than the lower clamping part of said clip, said latter having an inturned clamping edge for increased clamping tension; said upper clamping part having two, small flap-hooks opposite each other, and extending inward on straight angles, at the lower section, at the two ends of said upper clamping part; said upper clamping part incorporating two zigzag fashioned springs comprising a vertical middle section with two oppositely bent wire extensions; one of said extensions being straight and culminating in a loop which is secured, by means of a rivet, within one of the two concaved seats provided in said clamping part on the inner, blade receiving, side, while the second extension is bent downward and culminates in an upward curve; said upper clamping part also having two notches extending inward, at the bottom clamping edge, in line with the curved Wire ends of said springs where they are partly received; said clip incorporating a rod on which the two clamping parts are pivotally mounted and held in assembled relation; said clip incorporating a locking mechanism extending adjacently at the side of a hinge section; the clip mechanism comprising the extended, wider and threaded end of said rod which holds said clip together in its assembly, a knurled sleeve nut having a countersunk upper face, a beveled bottom face, a short neck and a flange, which is screw mounted on said threaded end of said rod; said locking mechanism also including a locking plate, having a hole in its center, a grooved upper face, and having three prongs extending at the bottom side triangularly positioned: said two longer prongs slidingly fitting in the two corners of said hinge section of said clip, while said third, shorter, wider and wedged shape prong is positioned to wedge in and out of a cut-out space provided by two extending flaps of said hinge section on thatside of said clip, thus locking and unlocking said clip when said sleeve nut, having said locking plate mounted on its short neck and held by the flange, in its assembly, is turned one way or the other; a tension spring of said clip, which is likewise mounted said comb constituting, an upper, straight, ridge body on said rod, whereby said handle can oscillate between section having two side guard teeth which are incised at the two upper sections of said clamping parts of said clip.
