O. R. OLSEN & H. H. FULTON.
PULLBY.
No. 271,108. l Patented Jan. 23, 1883.
WITNESSES.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLAF R. OLSEN AND HARMON H. FULTON, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNORS TO ELIJAH B. MARTINDALE, OF SAME PLAGE.
PULLE'Y.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 271,108, dated January 23, 1863.
Application tiled August 7, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OLAF R. OLSEN and 'HARMON H. FULTON, of the city ot'lndianapoembodying our said invention; Fig. 2, a central vertical section ofthe same on the dotted line :v x,- Fig. 3, an inside elevation of onehalt the hub of our improved pulley, and Fig. 4 a side elevation ofapulley, the hub whereof has flanges of a different form.
1n said drawings the portions marked A represent the web and rim of the the hub, and O the shaft.
The web and rim A is constructed by being pressed from pulp, paper, or other compressible material. Thisin itself, however, forms no part ot' our invention, as we are aware that a pulley formed from pulp has been patented. Depressions a are formed in the web during the process of pressing the same to receive corresponding projections on the hubs, whereby said web is prevented from turning on said hubs.
The hubs B are formed in two parts, one on each side, and are connected by bolts b2. Each part has a projection,b, on its inner face, which pulley; 15
tits into the recesses or depressions a in the w-e b. These projections are preferably square, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to prevent the web from turning thereon, and are intended to wedge tightly into said depressions, so as to hold the parts iirmly in unvarying relation. It will be readily seen that by our construction the hubs can be readily removed and replaced, and in case it is desired to use the pulley on a different-sized shaft it can be done by removing one hub and substituting another.
The form of flanges shown in Fig. is iny tended more especially for the larger-sized pulleys, the common round iia'nges shown in the other figures being preferable for small and medium sizes.
Having thus fully described our said invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with a pulley web and rim A, pressed from pulp, paper, or other compressible materiahofiianged hubs B, said hubs being bolted to said web by bolts b2, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the pulley web and rim A, pressed from pulp, paper, orother compressible material, and having depressions a. therein, of hubs B, having projections corresponding to said depressions, and adaptedto enter the same, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals, atlndianapolis, Indiana, this 3d day of August, A. D. 1882.
OLAF R. OLSEN. lL. sj HARMON H. FULTON. lL. s] In presence 01- G. BRADFORD, E. W. BRADFORD.
