GARMENT-PROTECTOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent lN'o. 271,037, dated January 23, 1883,

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JENNIE M. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in GarruentProtectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 represents a side View of my im proved garmen t'p'rotector, which is intended to be applied to the shoulder and arm of the wearer, between the under and outer dress; and Fig.2 isa plan ori'rontviewof the attached shield, which is applied to the body beneath the arm.

Like letters designate like parts in the several views.

My invention relates to that class of garment-protectors that are especially designed for-ladies wear, and which are intended to be worn between the under and outer dress at the shoulder, for the purpose of preventing injury to the outer dress from the moisture of perspiration.

In carrying my invention into effect I provide a sleeve, a, to the upper end of which is connected a shield, 11, adapted to tit the-body under the arm of the wearer. At the lower end of the sleeve,which may be of anylength, is a gathering, band, or cuff, c, which is preferably provided with an elastic cord or strip, by which the lower end of the sleeve is secured to the arm, the upper end, which conforms to the shoulder, being secured to the under-clothing by means of pins or stitching, or a button or hook, or any suitable fastenmg.

The various parts of the protector maybe made ot'any suitable material, the sleeve to and shield b being preferably composed of some water-proof fabric; or they may be made of any ordinary material and be lined with oiled silk or the like.

It will be observed that a garment-protector formed as described may be readily attached to the clothing, and may be as readily detached when the dress is changed, the same pair of protectors serving for use with several changes of dress. The article is simple, durable, and effective, may be readily washed, and when in use is not likely to become detached or displaced, though no cumbrous fastenings are employed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A garment-protector consisting of a sleeve, a, having a band, 0, at its end, the sleeve being adapted to inclose the arm and to be attached to the under clothing, and a Shield, 0, constructed to fit the body beneath the arm, substantially as described.
