4 Claims. (Cl. S40- 388) This invention relates to sound signals, particularly those used under damp or moist conditions, and/or which are to be protected against radio interference.

With reference to the drawing, 1i) identities a base plate or mounting plate having apertured lugs 12 by which the device may be mounted on any convenient structure. Surrounding the base plate there is a vertical wail 14 terminating in an oli-set flange 16 about the periphery of the plate. Mounting lugs 12 are extensions from the flange 16. On top of the base plate as seen in Fig. 2, a magnet motor 18 is mounted, that comprehends a U-shaped eld frame 2li centrally apertured to receive an extension 22 ot` a cylindrical ield core 24 that also passes through the base plate lll, a spacing washer 26, a resonator plate 28 and a clamp washer 30 against which the end oi the core member is peened over as at 32. A compressible seal ring 34 is disposed in a concavity ot' the spacer 26 so as to be compressed into sealing relation when the parts are secured together by the peening at 32.
The field frame 2t) provides a pair of parallel legs or arms 36 and 38 diametrically disposed on opposite sides of a eld winding or coil 4t) carried by the core member 24 that ends in a pole piece 42. Attached to the leg 36 there is a bracket d4 that supports a resistor element 46 and a circuit breaker assembly 48, and provides a bendable back stop 50. The leg 38 of the ield frame is somewhat longer than the leg 36 and provides a notch between parallel portions 52, within which notch there is disposed a neck portion S4 of an armature hinge plate 56. lill? ice be! site edges of said plate 56, more particularly as shown in Fig. l. On the hinge plate 5o there is secured a magnetic plate 6G secured thereto by rivets 62 and 6d, the latter being of brass and being disposed at the mathematical center of percussion for striking the pole piece 42 when the magnet motor is energized.
A spring 66 hooked to bracket 68 mounted on the leg 33 oi? the eld frame, and over a tongue "ill of t'ne armature plate, rocks the armature assembly over the end of the leg 38, so that the end of the armature will rest against the underside oi the back stop 5). rThe circuit breaker assembly 43 embodies a flexible leaf 72 carrying a movable contact i4 normally engaging a fixed contact 76 on the plate 77 when the field winding 40 is not energized. To a terminal board 35 a lead-in wire 82 is anchored at S4, where electrical connection is made with a wire 36 anchored in an opening 88, and thence connecting by 9i@ to the winding dit. From the coil or winding connection 92 returns to the terminal board with anchorage at 9d, from which connection is made by wire 96 to an anchorage lug 98 on the plate 77, and thence to one side of the resistance element @"6 by connection 2109.
The opposite end of the lead-in wire S2 is connected at tlZ to the core member 194 ol' a capacitor assembly 106 secured to a bushing ll for mounting in the wall of a cover liti. The core member lil-fi engages a connector plate 112 connecting with one electrode or foil 114 of a dry condenser, a second foil 116 in insulated relation to the toil 114 connecting with a condenser casingt" 118. The casing E18 is necked down at 120 to telescope inside of the bushing 198 where it is bonded or otherwise detailed to make electrical connection with the bushing. The usual insulators and sealing washers or discs 122 and l24 perfect the usual sealing of the capacitor, and insulation of the respective conductors and electrodes all as is well known to those experienced in the art.
The core member 16d extends axially of the bushing w3 to provide a connector tip 126 centrally disposed of a connector sleeve 128 having bayonet provisions for connecting the usual wiring harness. About the terminal tip 126 and within the sleeve 128 there are provided insulators and sealing washers 130 to prevent the entrance of moisture. This capacitor assembly is mounted in the side wall of the cover 11i) as shown in Fig. l where it is litter. with a clamp nut 132 cooperating with the threaded portion 134 for compressing a grommet or sealing washer 136 to prevent the passage of moisture. Electrical conductivity for shielding is perfected by placing the grommet 136 on the inside of the cover, and the clamp nut 132 on the outside where it may engage the cover 111i when tightened on the threaded portion 134.
The cover 110 has a liange 138 around the perimeter that is coextensive with the offset flange 16 of the base plate 10. When the cover 110 is placed over thc magnet motor 1S and telescoped with the vertical wall 14, the liange 138 engages a compressible sealing strip 140 supported by the ange 16 on the base plate. Tangs or interrupted flange portions 142 extending from the cover are then vent over and forced against the bottom side of the flanges 16, which compresses the sealing strip and perfects a shielding connection between the cover lill) and base 10.
While the embodiment of the present invention as herein disclosed, constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted.
What is claimed is as follows:
l. In a sound signal a magnet motor comprising, a U- shaped iield frame, a iield coil and core secured to the center portion of said frame, a circuit breaker assembly carried by one leg of the frame, a vibratable armature hingedly connected to the other leg7 of the frame and eX- tending into engageable relation with said circuit breaker for actuating said circuit breaker when said magnet motor is energized, a back stop for the armature, spring means normally urging the armature against the back stop, and a nonrnagnetic brass rivet carried by the armature and adapted to engage the core of said iield coil when the magnet motor is energized.
2. The combination set forth in claim- 1 wherein the field core extends through the frame and a base plate and is secured to a resonator plate to be sounded by the operation ot' said magnet motor.
3. In a sound signal device, a magnet motor comprising, a eld frame or" U-shape having parallel arms of unequal length, a circuit breaker assembly carried by the shorter arm, and an armature assembly having interlocking engagement with the longer arm, a back stop extending from said circuit breaker normally engaged by said armature, a field winding including a core member disposed between the arms of said eld frame, a mounting adapted to be secured to said support and field frame and having an apertured plate through which a portion of the core member extends, and a resonator plate having an aperture therein and secured in spaced relation on the side of the mounting plate remote from said frame by a portion of the core which extends through the aperture in said resonator plate.

In a vibration motor, a magnet coil having a. central core, a U-shaped eld frame secured to and embracing the magnet core and having one arm ending in a notched end portion, an armature assembly having a hinge plate interlocking with the notched portion of said arm to provide a hinging action, a circuit breaker assembly carried by the other arm providing a back stop engageable by said armature assembly, and a flexibly supported contact movable by said armature assembly when actuated by said magnet coil.
