HUB-BAND.

To all whom it may concrn: v
Be it known that we, CHARLES E. JONES and UHARLEs H. BILLINGS, of Cineinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Inprovements in Hub-Bands,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to such hub-bands as have an inserted'polished lining. The main band may be eitherpolished or rough, for painto ing.
The invention relates to the form of the lining, which is such that it may be easily fitted to the interier of the main band and pcrmit a fine finish with little labor. B is a cup-shaped lining of very thin sheet metal, generally brass, highly finished on the parts' which show when the band is in place on a hub.

F is a peripheral flange 011 front of cup B, covering the front edge of the rough band A.
Eis the periphery'ot'flange F,flush with surface of band A.
D is the solder uniting the parts.
The lininghay be spun or struck from sheet metal, and, being somewhat elastic, will allow itself to form a tight spring fit in the rough interier ot' the main band, and the periphery E of the flange F permits itself to be spun into neat fiush contact with the end of the band and produce a fine exterior finish, free from projections or cavities at the point E.
Hub-bands have been heretof'ore devised in which a lining fitting within the main hand had its peripheral edge or rim turned back so as to 40 lap upon the outer surface of the main band. After the main band was in place upon the hub the lining Was driven into position and retained by the spurs engaging in the Wooden hub. If a crack .appeared irregularly around the frontal joint, itcould be remedied only by refitting the parts, and this joint-crack could never be suppressed,owing to the lining being fixed to the Wooden hub instead of directly to the main hand. The lining could Shift independent of the main band, and the natural shrinkage of the hub would produce such shifting constantly. We do not claim such bands as of our invention.
We claim as our invention -The hub-band A, united by solder with the thin sheet-metal lining B, having opening O, and flush peripheral Contacting frontal, joint, E F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth'.
