3 Claims. (Cl. 198-195) The present invention relates to a belting of the type made up of a plurality of spaced parallel Wires or members having their ends hooked together on either side and has for its principal object the provision of a reinforcement chain extending longitudinally along the center portion of the belting for the purposes of preventing spread of the centers of the strand wires beyond normal distance or pitch when the belt is overloaded. The reinforcement chain is made up of aligned clip members disposed between and attached to adjacent wires of the belting.
This and other objects will be more apparent after referring to the following specification and attached drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view showing a wire belting provided with a reinforcement chain of my invention;
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line II-H of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view showing a modication of the clips of my invention;
Figure 4 is a plan view of a single clip; and
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the clip show in Figure 4.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, reference numeral 2 indicates a parallel wire belting made up of a plurality of wires 4 spaced in parallel relationship. The ends 6 of the wires are bent to form hooks whereby each wire is connected with the adjacent wire. The belting thus far described is conventional except for the reinforcement chain 8 which extends longitudinally along the center portion of belting 2 and which will now be described. Chain 8 is made up of a series of aligned metal clips 9 disposed between and attached to adjacent wires 4. Each clip 9 includes a connecting portion 10 having a pair of spaced eyes 12 at one end for engaging a wire 4 and a single centrally located eye 14 at its other end for engaging the adjacent wire. The single eye 14 of each clip is sized and shaped so as to t between the spaced eyes 12. Thus, as shown in Figure 1, a exible 2,703,644 Patented Mar. 8, 1955 continuous reinforcement chain is formed when the clips are in position. If desired, the chain 8 may be spot welded at intervals as at 16 to prevent its slippage toward either side of the belting.
The eyes 12 and 14 may be either rolled, as shown in Figure 3, or formed in the shape of a snap-on clip, as shown in Figure 2. The snap-on type clip may be a plied to parallel Wire belting already in use while e rolled-on type would be applied at the time the belting is originally assembled.
It will be noted that in the case of wide widths of belting, such as 36 inch, it may be desirable to employ two chains 8 for reinforcement.
While one embodiment of my invention has been shown and described, it will be apparent that other adaptations and modications may be made without departing from the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A belting comprising a plurality of elongated members disposed in spaced parallel relationship, the ends of the adjacent elongated members being connected together, and a plurality of aligned spacer clips having planar upper surfaces extending longitudinally along said belting intermediate the ends of said parallel elongated members, each of said spacer clips being disposed between and attached to a pair of adjacent elongated members to form a continuous line of reinforcement in said belting lying substantially within the horizontal plane of said belting, said continuous line of reinforcement being relatively narrow with respect to the length of said elongated members and the overall width of said belting.
2. A belting as deiined by claim 1 characterized by said belting including at least two of said continuous lines of reinforcement in parallel spaced relation.
3. A belting as dened by claim 1 characterized by said elongated members extending normal to and substantially beyond the sides of said continuous line of reinforcement.
