1 Claim. (C1. 30-53) The present invention relates to improvernents in safety razor having a flexible removable blade of the Gillette type.

In the above defined type of razor it has been the practice to clamp the blade into a slightly arcuate form with the handle of the razor extending from the concave side of the blade in its clamped position. With th1s type of construction, in shaving the face or beneath the arms the razor is manipulated in a manner comparable to a conventional garden hoe. While razors of this construction have been extensively used for many years, they are awkward to use especially when shaving beneath the arms or when shaving upwardly beneath the chin of the face.

According to the present invention, I have provided a safety razor which is similar in design and handling to a straight razor. The handle is angularly ofl-set from the head of the razor and is located on what might be termed the convex side of the blade when clamped in the razor head.

Thus, an object of the invention is to provide a razor of the type deseribed in which the handle is angularly otf-set from the head of the razor and extends from the convex side of the blade in its clamped positi'on.

Another object is to provide an improved razor of the type described in which the head of the razor has a base portion integral with the handle and a hinge guard for supporting the blade with an arcuate form against the base.

Another object is to provide a safety razor having a head with a base portion having an integral guide and gauge rib for locating the blade as well as the adjustable uard.

g These and other objects and advantages residing in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts will more fully appear from a consideration of the following specification and the appended claim.

In the drawings, the illustrated form of the invention comprises a razor 10 having a head 12 and a handle 14. The head 12 comprises a base portion 16, preferably integral with the handle 14, and a guard 18 hinged to the base 16 by a pin 20. Both the base 16 and guard 18 are similarly arcuate With res'pect to their opposed surfaces to impart the desired arcuate form to the conventional double edge flexible razor blade indicated at 22.

As more clearly shown in Fig. V, the guard 18 has a slot 24 to receive and be guided into position by the guide and gauge rib 26. In using the razor 10, the longitudinal edge 28 engages the skin and determines the angle of the head as it rests on or is moved over the skin. Also, the rib 26 acts as a fulcrum about which the head 12 is rocked during shaving to bring either edge of the double edged razor blade 22 into operation, depending upon the direction of the shaving stroke. T0 firmly hold the blade 22 in position, the guard 18 has a suitable latch 30 which engages around the end of the base portion 16 with spring tension to firrnly hold the guard with respect to the base portion 16 and to impart to the blade the arcuate shape of the opposed arcuate surfaces of the base 16 and guard 18.

It will be noted that the handle 14 is angularly off-set with reference to the head 12. Also the handle 14 is located on the convex side of the razor with respect to the parts with opposed surfaces shaped to clamp a flexible blade in an arcuate form, a removable flexible blade clamped between said parts, one of said parts being hinged at one end and having a longitudinally extending centrally located slot, and the other of said parts having a handle at one end to which said first part is hinged and a guide and gauge rib on said second part t0 receive the blade and projecting through said slot in said first part into an exposed position for contact with the skin.
