2 Claims. (Cl. 312-225) This invention relates to a corner dresser of the class designed primarily for bedroom use.
Although numerous types of dressers heretofore have been provided, none has been designed for use particularly in the corner of a room in which it is contained. Also, none has been designed which is suitable for effective use contemporaneously by two individuals.
It therefore is a principal object of the present invention to provide a dresser which may be stationed in the corner of a bedroom, thereby using space which is not otherwise actively utilized and correspondingly increasing the comfort and efficiency of use of the room.
Still another important object of this invention is the provision of a dresser which may be used efficiently by two persons at the same time.
Still another object of this invention is the provision of a dresser of dimensions not substantially greater than the dimensions of a conventional dresser but which may be used comfortably and etficiently by two persons at the same time.
Still a further object of this invention is the provision of a dresser of novel and attractive appearance.
The manner in which the foregoing and other objects of the present invention are accomplished will be apparent from the accompanying specification and claims considered together with the single figure of the drawing in which is depicted a perspective view of the herein described dresser.
As is apparent from the drawing, the dresser of my invention comprises a body portion which is of substantially rectangular horizontal cross section and which may be dimensioned to suit the particular installation contemplated. The body is supported on a plurality of legs 12 and has a substantially flat top surface 14. The body portion also has a pair of back faces 16, 18 adjacent each other. These are substantially at right angles to each other and are adapted to be placed against the walls when the dresser is in position in the corner of a room.
Opposite the back side faces are a pair of front side faces 20, 22 which are adapted to receive a plurality of slidably mounted drawers. The latter are arranged in two series. The first series is slidably mounted in front side face 20, the component drawers 24, 26 and 28 being vertically spaced apart from each other and extending substantially the depth of the dresser. The second series is slidably mounted in front side face 22 and comprises the component drawers 30, 32 and 34 vertically spaced apart from each other. The spacing of the drawers in the two series is such that when they are in position within the body of the dresser they overlap each other to give the interleaved or staggered effect which is particularly evident from the drawing.
The dresser also may be provided with a pair of mir rors. One of these, mirror 36, is mounted on posts 38, 40 adjacent the back side face 16 and substantially parallel thereto. The second mirror 42 is mounted on posts 40, 44 adjacent the back side face 18 and substantially 2,703,267 Patented Mar. 1, 1955 parallel thereto. Accordingly the two mirrors are substantially at right angles to each other. They may, if desired, be pivotally mounted on the supporting posts and they preferably are of somewhat smaller dimensions than the inside dimensions of the drawers so that they may be contained therein when the dresser is moved.
Thus it will be apparent that by the present invention I have provided a dresser which may be used to advantage in the corner of a room, thereby saving room space. Also, it may be used contemporaneously and effectively by two persons, one standing in front of side face 20 and using drawers 24, 26 and 28 as well as mirror 42. The other may stand in front of side face 22, using drawers 30, 32 and 34 and mirror 36. in addition, the dresser is of novel and attractive design, useful in a variety of environments.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention, herein shown and described, is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, 1' claim:
1. A dresser adapted to be placed in the corner of a room and comprising a body portion which is substantially rectangular in horizontal cross section, the body portion having a top face, first and second adjacent back side faces and first and second adjacent front side faces, both of the front side faces having a plurality of vertically spaced apart openings in staggered, alternating relationship to each other, a first series of drawers slidably mounted one in each of the openings in the first side face, and a second series of drawers slidably mounted one in each of the openings in the second side face, the members of one series of drawers being interleaved singly with the members of the other series of drawers, and the alternating members of the two series being immediately adjacent and substantially at right angles to each other, thereby permitting contemporaneous use of the dresser by two persons stationed respectively at the first and second side faces thereof.
2. A dresser adapted to be placed in the corner of a room and comprising a body portion which is substantially rectangular in horizontal cross section, the body portion having a top face, first and second adjacent back side faces and first and second adjacent front side faces, both of the front side faces having a plurality of vertically spaced apart openings in staggered, alternating relationship to each other, a first series of drawers slidably mounted one in each of the openings in the first side face, a second series of drawers slidably mounted one in each of the openings in the second side faces, the members of one series of drawers being interleaved singly with the members of the other series of drawers, and the alternating members of the two series being immediately adjacent and substantially at right angles to each other. a first mirror mounted on the body portion above the first back side face and substantially parallel thereto, and a second mirror mounted on the body portion above the second back side face and substantially parallel thereto, thereby permitting contemporaneous use of the dresser by two persons stationed respectively at the first and second side faces thereof.
