NITED STATES PATENT JOHN MCCLOSKEY, OF LONDON,ONTARIO, CANADA.
THRASHlNG-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 269,692, dated December 26, 1882. application filed June 25, 1881. (No model.) Iatented in Canada April 8, 1861, No. 12,607.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN iWIcCLo'sKEY, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at London, in the county of Middlesex and ProvinceofOntario,Uanada, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Thrashing-Machines, (for which I have received Iietters Patent in Canada, No. 12,607, dated April 8, 1881;) and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same.
My invention relates to the mechanism for operating the straw and grain decks and shaking the shoe of the separator, which are effected conjointly; and my improvement consists in the detailed construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a. longitudinal vertical section of so much of a thrashing-machine as is necessary to illustrate my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same through line in m, and Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section through line 31g of Fig. 1.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by the same letters of reference.
F is the frame of the machine. I is the straw-deck, one end of which is suspended by hangers or stirrup-rods M M from the top part of the machine, while the other end is provided with rigid hangers L,journaled upon the cranks h of the double-crank shaft H. The cranks h ofthe latter are connected by pitmen B B with the sides of the grain-deck J, the forwardend of which is suspended by the hangers or stirrup-rods M in the front part of the mach ne. Upon the projecting end h of shaft H is keyed the drive-pulley G, which has a wrist-pin, upon which is journaled a pitman, O, the lower end of which is connected by a toggle-joint, T, with the bell crank N, from the other arm of which a rod, U, extends up to the shoe P, in which it is fastened. Thus it will be seen that the two decks and the shoe are operated conjointly and by the same mechanism, the nature of which is such as to make it strong and durable, so that it does not easily get out of order.
I claim as my improvementand desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination, in a thrashing-machine, of shat't'H, havingcranks it h and h h, strawdeck I, hangers L L,journaled upon the cranks h h. grain-deck J, pitmen 13 B connecting it with cranks h h, pulley Gr, pitman O, the toggle-joint T at its lower end, bell-crank N, rod U, and shoe P, all constructed and combined to operate in the manner and for the purpose shown and set forth.
JOHN MGULOSKEY.
