This invention relates to a controlled vibrator. It has for its main objects to provide such a vibrator that will be highly satisfactory for the purpose intended, simple in structure, cheap to manufacture, easy to install, and extremely durable.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the drawing and description.
The invention resides in an arrangement of a solenoid and double vibrator which results in a controlled vibrator. It is independent of the cycle of an alternating electric current or a weight for inertia, therefore it will operate in any position or while the assembly is in motion.
By refer ng generally to the drawing, a part or" this app rcation, it will be observed that Fig. 1 is a view showing the vibrator assembly mounted on a case; Fig. 2 is a side edge view of Fig. 1,- and Fig. 3 is a view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the device comprises a base board i, pr ferably made of non-conducting material, on which a solenoid 2 is held in place by a clamp 3 which also holds in place vibrator arm 4 which is a spring. A contact arm 5 is connected to the vibrator arm 4 and is insulated therefrom by insulator 9. The vibrator arm 4 tends to pull away from the solenoid 2 and in so doing it impinges against an adjusting screw l having jam nut 3 which prevents any further movement of the vibrator arm 4. However, due to the spring in the vibrator arm -3 contact arm 5 continues to recede away from the solenoid and in so doing brings into contact points i and H which close the circuit, thereby energizing the solenoid which draws the assernbled arm toward it. Such movement is stopped by contact of the vibrator arm 4 with point :2 of the control frame 5. However, the lines or" force of the now energized solenoid coninue to act on contact arm 5 pulling it toward the solenoid until contact of points it and H are broken, thus deenergizing the solenoid permitting contact arm 5 and vibrator arm 4 assembly to again recede from the solenoid, and become ready to repeat the cycle. The period of the cycle is controlled by the arc through which the assembly vibrates, which are is regulated by the adjust ment or" the adjusting screw i. There is a hole E3 in contact arm 5 to permit easy clearance of the adjusting screw '4'. Source wires are connected at it it.
The device may be made of any material suitable for the purpose, but I prefer to use such materials as are generally used for manufacturing electric vibrators. Also the vibrator may be made in different sizes and capacities, depending on how and where to be used.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of structure, but reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as they remain with in the scope of the invention and the following claims.
Having described my invention I claim:
1. A controlled electric vibrator of the character described comprising a base, a solenoid mounted on said base, a vibrator arm attached by one end thereof adjacent said solenoid, said arm be ing a curved spring positioned attached to and leading from the solenoid and then toward the solenoid with part of its face approximately parallel with the magnetic face of said solenoid and extending beyond the face of the solenoid to its end with a contact point in end, a contact arm attached to said spring vibrator arm with insulation between said two said contact arm positioned parallel with said vibrator arm except an end thereof which is bent around the spring vibrator arm, a contact point in said end of the contact arm in register with the contact point of the vibrator arm, a stop point mounted near the free end of said vibrator arm, a small bracket attached to the base, an adjusting screw supported in said bracket, said contact arm having a hole therethrough at a point in register with said stop point, said adjusting screw being partly inserted through said hole in said contact arm and being adapted by manual adjustment for its threaded end to make contact with the vibrator arm at a point directly over said stop point, said screw by its adjustment as to space from said vi rator arm being adapted to regulate the vibrating movement as to time of repetition, the contact points being connected in circuit with the solenoid to periodically interrupt the energization thereof.
2. An adjustable electric vibrator of the class described comprising an assembly cor ting of a base, a solenoid, a clamp, a spring vibrator arm, a contact arm, a plurality of contact points, said clamp holding said solenoid and spring vibrator attached to said base, the said vibrator arm positioned with part of its face within the magnetic pull of said solenoid with a contact point attached in its free end; a contact arm attached by one end thereof to said vibrator arm, insulation between said arms where they are attached together, said contact arm and vibrator arm being in parallel relation where they pass over the face of said solenoid, a contact point in the free end of said contact arm, a stop point attached to said base and being positioned between one end of the solenoid and the free ends of said arms, said contact arm having a hole therethrough at a point directly opposite said stop point, a small bracket attached to the base, an adjusting screw supported in said bracket, the threaded end of said screw inserted through said hole in the contact arm, said screw being adapted by manual means to regulate the space between the end of the screw and said vibrator arm, and by thus regulating 4 the width of the space regulates the vibrations as to time of repetition, the contact points being connected in circuit with the solenoid to periodically interrupt the energization thereof.
