Description

M y 4, 1954 s. E. BERGIN COMBINATION CRIB SHEET Filed June 18, 1949 FIG.4
INVENTOR.
E. BERGIN SARAH BY ATTORNEY Patented May 4, 1954 STATES TENT OFFICE 6 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a combination crib sheet, and more particularly to top and bottom crib sheets and fastening means therefor in a single article of manufacture.
An object of my invention is to provide a combination crib sheet having a bottom sheet and a top sheet combined.
Another object of my invention is to provide a combination crib sheet having a bottom sheet constructed to fit a mattress and stay smooth and in place while the top sheet gives the infant plenty of room and freedom of movement without being able to kick the covers 01f.
Another object of my invention is to provide a combination crib sheet which is easy to put on and take off a mattress, and which will stay sesurely in place on the mattress.
Another object of my invention is to provide a combination crib sheet in which the bottom sheet is fitted around the mattress on all sides and beneath the mattress at both ends.
Another object of my invention is to provide a combination crib sheet which is inexpensive tomanufacture, simple to install, efficient in use and durable in quality.
Other and further objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a combination crib sheet embodying my invention and installed upon a conventional crib and mattress.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bottom of a mattress and combination crib sheet installed thereon as in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line 33 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a detail.
Fig. 5 is a plan View of a further detail.
In the embodiment chosen for illustration, my combination crib sheet is shown installed upon a mattress it, of ordinary construction, in a crib l I of well known type. The bottom sheet l2 has a surface portion the size and shape of an ordinary crib mattress, and it is stretched tightly over the mattress and held firmly in place by depending sid portions [3 fitted about the depth of the mattress On both sides and both ends. The depending side portions [3 are formed integrally with the bottom sheet [2 or securely attached thereto, as by sewing. Bottom portions it, it are attached to the lower edge of the side portions [3 adjacent the head and foot, respectively, of the combination crib sheet; the bottom portion I' l being removably attached along one side by means of the slide fastener or Zipper l5 and tie strings IS.
A top sheet H is secured in place over the bottom sheet 52 and attached thereto along one side and across the foot, as by sewing, and removably attached along the other side by a slide fastener 18 and string ties it, or by other suitable means. Fullness in th top sheet 11 is achieved by pleats or tucks 23 therein, where it is attached to the bottom sheet I2 at the foot, and by elastic material 2i inserted in the hem at the head end of the top sheet.
The top sheet ll extends from the foot of the bottom sheet IE but terminates short of the head end thereof, leaving a portion of the bottom sheet exposed, and the head of the infant in the crib rests upon this exposed head end of the bottom sheet 12. Attached to the corners of the head end of the bottom sheet 12 are flaps 22, 22 which cover the corners of the bottom sheet and are removably attached to the top sheet H by grippers or snap fasteners 23, 23', respectively, and tie strings 24, 24', respectively, or other suitable fastening means.
In order to install my combination crib sheet on a mattress, with all slide fasteners and fasteners open, an end of the mattress is inserted into the pocket provided by the head end of the bottom sheet l2, the depending side portions I3 and the bottom portion M. Then, as the surface portion of the bottom sheet is stretched tightly over the mattress, the other end of the mattress may be inserted into the pocket provided by the foot end of the bottom sheet K2, the depending side portions l3 and the bottom portion [4.-
When the combination sheet has been thus fitted onto the mattress, the slide fastener 15 and tie strings It can be fastened to hold the combination crib sheet securely in place.
With the slide fastener l8 and tie strings is unfastened, the free corner of the top sheet i: can be turned back, as indicated in Fig. 5, and an infant placed upon the bottom sheet with its head resting upon the exposed portion of the bottom sheet between the flaps 22, 22. If the topsheet I7 is then replaced and secured to the flaps 22, 22 by the snap fasteners 23, 23 and tie strings 2 5, 2d, and the slide fastener 18 and tie springs is fastened, the infant can move about freely between the sheets, but no amount of movement will dislodge or displace the bottom sheet !2 which is stretched tightly over the mattress. On the other hand, the top sheet has fullness near 3 the foot because of th pleats 2B, and fullness and resiliency near the head because of the elastic material 2|; but the top sheet is securely attached to the bottom sheet around the edges of the surface portion, and no amount of movement or kicking will dislodge it.
My combination crib sheet can be made of cotton sheeting or any other suitable sheet material, as desired, and it will b realized by those skilled in the art that various modifications and changes can be made in the embodiment shown and described without departing from the scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
