j This invention relates to a novel handgrip for handles of various type such as golf clubs, baseball bats, tennis rackets, hammers, hatchets and other tools, and has for its primary object to providej a handle grip formed entirely of hard twine or cord and which is more effective than handgrips of rubber, leather and tape since it will keep the hand dry and prevent slippage of the hand relatively tothe handgrip due to moisture caused by perspiration.

Another object of the invention is to provide anv extremely effective handgrip oapableof Vbeingr applied to handles of any cross sectional size and shapeland. which may be made in various lengths to be gripped by one or both hands.

f 'A further object of the invention is to provide a novel hand'grip which cannot become loose, which is incapable of unraveling and which is securely and effectively anchored to the handle.

Various other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter become more fully apparent from. the following description of the drawing, illustrating a presently preferred embodiment thereof, and wherein:

Referring more specifically to the drawing, the handgrip in its entirety is designated generally 'l and4 isillustrated in Figure 1 applied to a handole A which may constitute a part of a hand tool or of an athletic implement.k In its preferred embodiment as illustrated in the drawings, the handgrip 1V includes an intermediate portionii and, corresponding end portions a. Each end portion 9 is composed of an inner shoulder or abutment section Illv and an outer anchoring sectionV Il.

In the preferred embodiment as illustrated in the drawing, the intermediate section 8 comprises a closely coiled braided'ribbon formed of twine. As illustrated in Figure 5, the braided ribbon I 2 is formed of seven strands I 3 of hard twine which are tightly braided to form a at braided ribbon which ifs then wound in tight convolutions about the handleA. The unbraided ends I4 ofthe ribbon IiV are disposed against thev end convolutions of the gripv portion 8, as illustrated in Figure 2. The grip portion 8 may be cemented to the han--4 die A, if desired, or if preferred the unbraided ends I4 of the strands may be temporarily secured to the handle A to hold the grip portion 8 in a properly applied position until the handgrip is completed. The number of strands I3 forming the flat braided ribbon I2 may Vary and may comprise 3, 5 or 9 strands rather than 7 as illustrated. Likewise, if preferred, the intermediate portion may be formed from a single strand of hard twine wound in tight convolutions about the handle A.

As the end portions 9 are identical, a description of one will suce for both. 'I'he inner shoulder or abutment section IB of each end portion S is composed of two strands I5 and i6 of hard twine which are inter-twisted with one another and wound in tight convolutions about an end of the grip portion 8.
