Patented Mar. 9, 1954 UNITED STATS PATENT OFFICE AUXILIARY GUN TRIGGER ACTUATING MECHANISM 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in trigger-actuating mechanisms for rifles, shotguns, and the like which employ the conventional trigger and which trigger, as is well known, must be "squeezed in firing the gun rather than pulling the trigger abruptly in a rearward direction.
It is one of the principal objects of the invention to provide an auxiliary trigger in the form of a lever pivotally attached near one of its ends to a supporting bracket secured to the trigger guard of a gun and formed with a depending handle by means of which an operator will automatically maintain the sights of the gun and the gun barrel aligned in a vertical plane.
The lever provides means in the path of normal movement of the thumb of the user for moving or squeezing the trigger into a firing posi tion. This natural movement of the thumb does not disturb the firm grip of the users hand on the gun nor the holding of the gun steady and the sights on the target while pulling the trigger.
These and other objects will appear as my invention is more fully hereinafter described in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and finally pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is an end elevation of a triggeractuating mechanism made in accordance with my invention, attached to a trigger guard, and as viewed from the breech of the gun.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow applied to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional top plan view taken approximately along the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing:
The invention comprises a handle, generally indicated at i, in the form of an elongated vertical tube or any other form of hand grip to Whose upper end is secured, by welding or the like, a clamping element generally indicated at 2 of U shape in side elevation and adapted to be securely clamped to the longitudinal cross piece 3 of a trigger guard generally indicated at 4. The clamping element comprises a top plate 5 and a bottom plate 6 adapted to be forced toward each other in clamping engagement with the trigger guard by means of screws of bolts 1 extending through both plates of the clamp and provided with lock nuts 8. To one side of the clamping element 2 I pivotally attach, by means of a shoulder bolt 9, a trigger-actuating lever I whose inner end I l is in adjustable contact with the bottom end I2 of a gun trigger l3 by means of an adjusting screw l4 threadedly extending through an internally threaded boss l mounted upon or cast integral with the top plate 5 of the clamping element 2.
By this arrangement the inner end of the lever arm ill, through the medium of the adjusting screw i i, may be adjusted into hair-trigger contact with the trigger 13 of the gun or an adjustment may be made whereby a considerable forward swing of the outer end of the lever ill will be necessary to actuate the trigger.
As illustrated in Figure 2, the handle I may be hinged to swing forwardly with respect to the gun instead of being solid as shown in Figure 1. To accomplish this I divide the handle at its upper end into two parts i6 and I1. I bifurcate the bottom end of the top portion as at [8 and form a rounded projection l9 on the top end of the bottom section 11. The two parts are held together by a hinge-pin 20 by means of which the handle may be held securely in a vertical or firing position or swung into an inoperative horizontal position for convenience in placing the gun in storage or in a gun case.
While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent A trigger-actuating mechanism comprising in combination, a horizontally disposed U-shaped clamping bracket having a top plate and a bottom plate, a plurality of locking screws extending through both of said plates and adapted to secure the bracket to a trigger guard, a vertically disposed handle secured to and depending from the bracket, a horizontally disposed lever pivotally attached to the top plate of said bracket by one of said locking screws extending through the lever intermediate the ends thereof, one end of said lever extending into the trigger guard for contact with the bottom end of a trigger whereby movement of the opposite end of said lever will actuate said trigger, a horizontal internally threaded boss mounted upon the top plate, an adjusting screw threadedly mounted in said boss at right angles to said one end of the lever and adapted for adjustable contact therewith for varying the extent of movement of said one end of the lever with respect to said trigger.
